“Not great food at all! (ping food)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

Firstly our order was taken wrong, I told the gentleman on the bar that it wasn't right and he got quite abrupt (I thought it was wrong as the price was too low) as it turned out he had ordered us the 6oz burger as opposed to the 10oz

This place sells what I call 'ping food' the food is just re-heated and not made on-site, I ordered nachos for start which were quite nice but you can't really go wrong with nachos, for main I asked if I could have the red pepper and goats cheese tart from the started menu and have it with chips which they said yes, on the starter menu the tart was served with a salad.

when it came out I could not believe my eyes! The chips were nearly transparent, the tart looked like it had been nuked in the microwave and there was no salad, I spoke to the waitress who brought out the salad for me, the chips were rock hard and not cooked properly at all, my boyfriends chips with his burger were also the same, my boyfriend said his burger was okay but the chips were inedible.

I spoke to the waitress afterwards when she asked if everything was okay, the waitress (didn't get her name, blonder hair) was very very nice and very apologetic about the food.

I wouldn't go back, I would avoid at all costs, i've attached a picture of my food, how any chef/cook can let food leave his/her kitchen looking like that is beyond me.

Went here for lunch on Saturday. They were just opening as we arrived. Nice comprehensive menu and reasonable prices. I ordered gammon which was ok, but didn't have the mushrooms that were mentioned. My partner ordered the gourmet burger which came out in a stale bun so was returned. Then came back without half of the items on the plate, then came back again and was eaten reluctantly. The same burger was returned each time which was very surprising. In the end, I had a free dessert and my partner wasn't charged for the burger. But what a shambles. The staff didn't seem to know how food should be prepared and served. We will try one of the other restaurants next time. To me it is very important that if you are going to provide an extensive menu with a list of everything that is going on the plate, then this needs to be adhered to! It was so disappointing because it is such a lovely space in a beautiful village!

Our group of 14 men found the Dovey Inn a great place to stay. All the staff were super friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The rooms we were allocated were a good size, and the beds reasonably comfortable, and some of us had a spectacular Dyfi Estuary view (we had Room 2 with a bay window on the first floor - see photo).
We stayed both evenings at the Inn having played Aberdovey on the first day ( great course, real test and good welcome) and Royal St. David's on the second day (all of us were severely tested with high winds and heavy rain and narrow fairways ! ) which meant we were were all very thirsty and very tired. We stayed in the lounge bar and were able to take advantage of the special offers (Tuesday night 25% off all grills and on Wednesday Curry Night with a free pint ). The evening meals were of good quality and everyone appeared well satisfied. We aslo took part in the Quiz on the Tuesday, and one of our teams won - prize - a free drink for the team.
There was a good atmosphere in all the bars and all bar staff were happy, efficient and polite which makes a change from some places we've stayed.
A special thank you to Lorna, the Maager, who made our stay so successful, and also the two lovely ladies who served us breakfast , Ann and Sharon who again were super friendly and helpful.
I hope that Brains Inns and Hotels appreciate how good their staff are at what they do - they are most certainly a great asset to the Dovey Inn.

Room Tip: If available book a front facing sea view room ( little traffic during the night ) We stayed in room...

Just came home (reluctantly) from second visit to Dyfi Inn and not happy as they are fully booked in August. We went last year and it is quite simply a brilliant place to go. Location - yards from the Sailing Club, main car park, shops (ok bucket, spades, clothing, etc), and the most glorious fine sandy beach - oh yes, ice cream shop makes lovely ginger ice cream, interesting and very moreish! Accomodation - we stayed for the 2nd year running in family room no3, wow brilliant room, well really it is 2 rooms with connecting door and shared bathroom, window seats, air con, etc, in both, almost a suite, and yes to everyones delight, a tv in both rooms, but funny enough, not turned on! (Oh yes should mention room no9, also staying with sister and brother in law, modern, fresh and overall somewhere you would want to go again, and again) Decor - clean, clean, clean...no more needs to be said, except still not happy they are booked for August. Food - yyyyyyyuuuuummmmm....well we had sharing platter, more than enough for the 5, oh please do try the chilli, highly recommend. The menu is good, there is even an extensive 2 for £10 range and portion size is good - for the hungry there is the option alsoto 'go large', even on the specials board. Range of drinks both alcoholic and soft are very good. Outside Space - although the Inn is roadside, round the back is a small seating area, great for afternoon sun, next to it is a metal staircase leading to the terrace above which is a sun trap until mid evening - tables and chairs here and you can book your table but be quick as space is a premium. Down sides - Parking - well £3.50 in the public car park really is not a down side, ticket runs out 18.00 nevermind what time you arrive and 18.00 to 08.00 is free, so alarm set and feed tbe meter or move the car! Food Shopping - same for tourist (especially if looking for food for beach, on self catering in another property or a local alike) there was a Londis but now shut, no shop in town, and horror of horrors....no cash point (one bank closed, one only open 1 day a week and that is closing) so no cash!!!!! 2 mins in car under rail bridge in from Tywyn is small supermarket, otherwise milk only from ice cream shop. Staff At Dyfi Inn - polite, efficient, friendly, have time, stand in female manager until new one at end of month - she is brilliant and should be area manage (all staff deferred to her and, breakfast staff full of praise for how yard she had worked for the Hotel), all staff were exceptionall, 2 ladies on breakfast were a credit to the brewery, lovely ladies - thank you! Please, please, any cancellations let me know, week wanted, anytime to suit between 9th to 23rd August - PLEASE!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Family room no 3 and double for 2 in room no 9

We stayed at The Dovey Inn for 2 nights during May Half Term 2014 and were really impressed. The room was great, the food was great and the staff were really friendly especially Anne the housekeeper who was so helpful. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend this good value hotel.

We were recommended to the Dovey by friends who have stayed their previously, and I have to say we were not disappointed. We wanted one of the bigger rooms but they were unavailable so we booked a twin with sea views. For the £62.50 a night per room it was a steal, a tremendous view and more than adequate room, it may not have been the height of luxury but for the price it was extremely good value. I could not leave a review without mentioning the two ladies (Ann and Sharon) who served Breakfast the 4 mornings we were there. They were pleasant, friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure we enjoyed the breakfast, so a big thank you to them. The only thing that could have made our stay any better was having one of the bigger rooms at the front of the hotel with the large bay windows to enjoy the terrific view.

Room Tip: I think the rooms with the bay windows at the front are no.s 2 & 3

We stayed for 1 night on the £80 May Special Bed, Breakfast and Dinner Deal and we were really pretty impressed. We have been visiting Aberdovey for my whole life (40+years!) and so have seen the up's and downs of the Doveys fortunes. It is, I am pleased to say on a real upward turn again it seems. Our room at the front was extremely clean and light, beds comfy with pristine white linen and towels . GREAT view to the sea, all the bits and bobs you need like hairdryer, tea, coffee etc. Even a nice quality biscuit provided!! The bathroom was very well equipped, and large. The pub itself was really busy in the evening so lots going on. We even managed a drink on the roof terrace in the late afternoon and that was a nice feature. We both opted for the steak for dinner and it was very good pub-style food. Both steaks a medium and a medium rare cooked just-so. Breakfast in the morning was really tasty, all cooked to order and piping hot. The ladies serving were really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. There wasn't a table set up when we arrived (5 minutes before end of service), but they bustled about getting us sorted and the whole thing was a v.good experience. In fact the staff all round are first rate - helpful both on the phone during booking, and in person, both in the bar and at restaurant level. Its that (plus that view!) which will see us visitng again soon. In fact - the ony reason we are not back there for the Late May Bank Holiday is that they don't have a room! I am sure they will very soon be placed higher on Trip Advisor than their current position if they can maintain this level of customer service.

Room Tip: Request a sea view.
