“Historic Stay with Great Service and Modern facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

We booked this hotel through Great Little Breaks for a two-night break away from the family. This is a lovely hotel, despite being part of a chain, and we were impressed and delighted with the way in which Mercure had sensitively transformed this historic building and its estate into a fantastic place to stay. We were upgraded to a room in the Gate House, giving us the benefit of a free bottle of wine, chocolates and fruit, bottled water and a lovely room with separate seating area in one of the towers. With lots of exposed stone and beams, we really did feel as though we were honoured guests in a rather exclusive historic house, Delightful!

The public areas of the hotel are delightful, with lovely lounges and a truly impressive main dining room. The hotel certainly has the 'wow' factor and, with good food and great service, we had a lovely stay and were sad to leave. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful - a real credit to Mercure and an example to other hotel chains in how to look after guests and transform an historic setting into a venue which can offer modern facilities without destroying the historic charm.

Room Tip: Ask for an historic room, if available, as they are the ones located in the oldest parts of the mano...

Stayed here for one night. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large, with huge bathrooms. Our room looked out over the pond located at the rear of the property, which was stunning. We had a meal in the restaurant (not the bar) which was delicious and very reasonably priced. We only wished we could stay longer to explore the grounds more. It was like staying in a mini castle,

Great hotel, full of character) for visiting Ironbridge Gorge and museums.

Staff had all been well trained and would go out of their way to be helpful.

My only complaint was I thought the coffee prices were a bit dear!

PROS:
- Quiet environment in the countryside;
- 2 windows that can be widely open;
- Good reliable Wifi Internet;
- Low rental price
CONS:
- Our room, #8 room, was very small;
- No work desk;
- The only sit down furniture was a small wooden chair;
- Bathroom plumbing fixtures need updating

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floor are cramped with low, sloping ceilings

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I booked an executive room for three nights. The hotel is situated in a great location to explore the Ironbridge area. Service and food were pretty good. The bed was two singles pushed together and had a hard ridge the length of yhe bed where the mattresses met. Unfortunately we had to change rooms on the last night due to a flood in the bathroom. The only room available was a standard doube. The duty manager did provide a complimentary bottle of wine but we were charged the full executive room price for that night despite not having access to the extras we had paid for.

We have today returned from an inclusive weekend break & it couldn't have been bettered. From the spectacular building and grounds, the attentive staff to the fabulous food, this inclusive break went beyond expectations. Our room was breathtaking, we stayed in a four poster historic room, complete with lake view, robes, fruit, water & chocolates, lots of special little touches. The staff were attentive & pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. The food at breakfast, lunch & dinner was exceptional. We have both had the most wonderful, relaxing break & would highly recommend this hotel.
