I agree with the other reviewers. The outside of this Hotel is absolutely stunning and it is interesting and quirky inside. However, it would appear that the current owners wish to spend as little as they can possibly get away with on the decor and fittings.

The bedroom was spacious and clean, but in need of an update. As stated above, there was no satelite television as advertised and the TV struggled to get 5 channels. There was tea and coffee (no biscuits and no vending) and a trouser press. The bath and sink were old and stained, the wallpaper was coming off the walls, the tap dripped and one light fitting was hanging off. That said, it really wouldn't take much to bring this hotel up to scratch and the owners should be ashamed that they have such a beautiful building which they appear to be neglecting.

The staff were cheerful and helpful and the hotel bar was reasonably cheap. We did not eat in the restaurant as the menu looked fairly unappetising, but the breakfast was good albeit at the lower end of the quality scale.

The Hotel room had bars on the windows and there was obvious signs of CCTV and security patrols in the car park.

In summary, if I had to stay in the area again I would look for other options, but it is certainly not the worst hotel I have stayed in.

Booked this hotel to go to a family event over a weekend. Looks great outside and on most of the websites that I had seen it.
Staff were all very pleasant and breakfast was great. However, they could you little to make up for the general state of this hotel. Reception looked OK, however started to have my doubts when we started to walk along corridor to room and found black tape holding down carpets that should have been replaced years ago. The historic manor house theme is continued when you get to the rooms as the bed and bedding looked like it was several hundred years old, although the chipboard table with an old curtain draped over it was probably less typical of the period. The wallpaper was doubled over where it was falling off the walls. The facilities were not even close to those being advertised. Supposed to have satelite TV in the room, we got 3 channels properly and the pay-to-view films. There was supposed to be a play station games machine in each room as well, however no mention of the fact they would charge £5 per hour to use it (if you like that sort of thing). The taps in the bathroom were not actually attached to the sink and moved about all over the place, tiles were cracked or missing and the skirting boards had a thick layer of dirt all over them.
Generally speaking this hotel was completely in disrepair and in need of deep cleaning. The bar was unstaffed and the restaurant would never be able to seat all the guests if they ever got close to being full. I would not stay in this hotel again even as a last resort, I would rather sleep in my car, would be more comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel three years ago and it was really good. We went back as we have friends in the area we wanted to see and in these three years it has gone really downhill.
It is not so much a hotel as a wedding venue. During the 4 nights we were there the hotel hosted 4 weddings, a not uncommon thing apparently.
The first room we were in was right next to the bar and we were kept awake until 03.30 by the noise. We were moved to another room but were still kept awake by the niose of drunk guests until the wee small hours.
The only meal we had was breakfast and that was none too good. The croissants were burned.(how did they manage that!).
The decor is really tired and dated. The bed head boards are fabric and bear the greasy imprints of other guests heads. The rest of the furniture is worn and needs replacement.
Had we not prepaid with Superbreaks we would have checked out after the first night.
The only plus is that the staff are very pleasant and helpful.

Stayed here for a wedding (also taking place at hotel). On arrival we found we had been allocated a twin when we had booked a double. To be fair the girl on the front desk moved us to a turret room which was quite nice and different!

My overall opnion of the place is that it must have very bad management. With the exception of the front of house staff the service was terrible. At the wedding dinner I asked for the wine list 3 times but never received it, the wedding food was appaling (5 of the 10 pieces of chicken on our table had to go back as were not cooked properly). When we bought an £18 bottle of Rose wine the barman took 15 minutes to get it and then it wasn't even chilled!

The breakfast was nice and would have been even better if they didn't leave a little radio on the side blasting out awful brummie local adverts etc.

Overall the place could be so nice but needs some attention, nothing major, just give the place a bit of a clean, do the windows, revarnish etc! I got the impression that they may have been seriously understaffed. A shame as is such a beautiful building.

“Dissapointing”

Clarion Hotel Madeley Court

Just returned from a 3 night stay. Madeley Court is a 16thC manor house - rooms are located in the manor house itself or in modern blocks built in the grounds. We were allocated a room in the manor when we checked in. The room was full of character (wonky floors, creaking floorboards) but had 2 single beds and no shower so we immediately asked to be moved. We were given a room in the modern block which was better for us. However we were very surprised at how shabby the room was - as noted by previous reviews a refurb is well overdue! Peeling wallpaper, stained carpets, holes in the bedspread and sheets, cobwebs in the bathroom. Not really good enough for the price and 'premier' tag they give themselves. Breakfast was good. Overall I think that tourists would be happy staying in the manor house as it is very characterful and they would put up with the rooms for the experience. However, business travellers may be better off at the International in Telford town centre which we also stayed in on this trip. This would be our choice for future stays.
