“A very enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2010

Have recently returned from spending a weekend at this hotel. The hotel information book in the room lists their aims as cleanliness, good food, comfortable surroundings, convivial company and personal service. In my opinion they achieve all of these things. The hotel was clean, warm and comfortable. The meals were good home cooked food. The manager and all of the staff were helpful and friendly.

We stayed in the Auckland at the beginning of August and have been going there for many years with the family and we thoroughly enjoyed it as usual. Staff are really friendly and welcoming and always see to your every need. The rooms are really clean and tidy with very comfortable beds. There is a T.V in each room, all rooms are en-suite and the maids change bedding and towels daily. Breakfast at the Auckland includes a buffet of many cereals and yoghurts, you can also have toast which is bought to your table. Following this there is a full english breakfast available if you wish. Evening meals consist of 3 courses and is served at 6pm. They are all home cooked and we especially recommend the Lamb Henry, a favourite for our family. There is a choice of 3 meals including a vegetarian choice. The night entertainment is on everyday except for a Saturday. The entertainers are mainly singers, there is also bingo twice a week and on a Thursday it is party night - all fun and games! :-)

I was horified to read the review from Australia. I can only say that my husband and I were staying at the Auckland at the same time and even in the room above the Australians. We complained at the smell of cigarette smoke coming from the room below and can only assume that this is the reason these people were accused of tampering with the smok alarm. This hotel has a NO SMOKING POLICY and this should be respected. We hope to return very soon to the Auckland and look forward to the friendly welcome and good home cooking.

We stayed here for 1 night in March 09. The rooms are small and shabby, not worthy of the 62 quid tariff. We were wrongly accused of tampering with the fire alarm (an impossible feat - the roof and alarms are 8 / 9 ft high), were asked to leave immediately without Breakfast (although we were charged for this), were charged an extra 30 pound (Nigel the Manager said this is what it would cost to call an electrician), then were barricaded in the car park for 15 minutes after paying this. (He parked us in and made us wait...maybe until he checked the room was in order?). I have never been so humiliated and recommend people stay away from this establishment.

We stayed over Easter this year and had a lovely time. The hotel is warm and cosy with a very homely, comfortable feel. The manager Nigel personally welcomed us which was nice. We were lucky in that we were given room 203, on the second floor out the back of the hotel. No sea view, but it was absolutely silent out the back and the room was huge. We had a king-size bed and a full single bed. The bathroom had a bath with shower over. Tea and coffee with a full size kettle was in the room too. Some of the rooms were very small and quite dark, but they are only really for sleeping and chaning in aren't they?
We travelled with a coach company so we were on half board. The food was really nice with a choice of menu at all courses. Including a veggie option and salad at all meals. Fantastic value for money. The only problem we had is that being younger than the rest of our party dinner at 6pm was a bit of a shock at first. We aren't in from work until 10 past 6 usually and here we were eating a 3 or 4 course meal at 6pm but we got used to it. The Hotel even puts on entertainment every evening. Being right on the sea front we took the opportunity of going out for a long walk each evening. The sunsets over Morecambe bay were breathtaking. Three evenings of totally different sunsets. I took a lot of photos. Morecambe is only a short drive from the Lakes or Yorkshire Dales so is brilliantly suited for touring. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a long weekend. The hotel specialises in war-time weeks and the memorabilia they have is amazing. I think a week for us would have been too long, but for a first time visit it was superb. Go and have a great time.
