“Terrific weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We stayed at The Midland for our wedding anniversary, having been married there two years ago. Our stay coincided with the Vintage Weekend.

As always the staff, Vicky & Poppy particularly were very helpful, and the food and are service over the weekend were excellent.

Room Tip: Room 202 is at the end of a corridor, so it''s very quiet with no footfall and it has a grea...

My new husband and I have just got home after holding our wedding at The Midland and cannot praise the hotel and staff enough for an absolutely PERFECT time!

I arrived on Wednesday afternoon with two friends and the staff were attentive and welcoming from this point - our room on the first night was brilliant, on the corner of the hotel with a half sea view and half town view (room 101). The room and bathroom had plenty of space and fit 3 of us in easily.

We enjoyed lunch and some drinks in the Rotunda and the sandwiches were fab and totally worth every penny.

I also enjoyed the spa, having a spray tan and my nails done during my stay - lovely ladies and excellent value for money!

Breakfast every single morning was fantastic - the food perfectly cooked and a great selection. The staff were always there with a smile to serve you quickly.

The bar staff in the Rotunda did really well on the Thursday when around 25 of us flocked for pre-wedding day food and drinks, and my check in to the suite went smoothly with reception staff again being amazing! The suite really is the best room I've ever stayed in with perfect views of the bay.

For anyone considering The Midland as the setting for their special day, DO IT! Our day was absolutely perfect and the staff helped make the day special as much as the guests did.

I really don't want to miss anyone out as every single member of staff we encountered treated us like VIPs - Vicky has been amazing since we first started planning our wedding, Gavin is one of the loveliest men I have ever met (and a huge Tunnocks tea cake fan as we found out!) and Stuart really helped me feel relaxed when I was about to have a panic attack pre-ceremony!

Everyone commented on how fantastic the food was, how welcoming the staff were and how perfectly orchestrated the whole day was and that really is testament to the incredible team at this hotel - we really cannot thank you enough and will definitely be back to visit very soon!

We attended our nephew's wedding here on 13th September, 2013. We stayed for just one night, but could happily have stayed longer. We thought that the hotel was a good choice, well organised, and the food was good. Our third floor room with a sea view, was good with a balcony, with floor to ceiling glass, for optimum light and view of the bay. I love art deco, so the hotel was aesthetically pleasing, loved the spiral staircase and the original floor in the lobby. The service on reception was friendly and helpful, and the waitors and waitresses could not be faulted.

In summary we had a lovely stay, really enjoyed the wedding, and would recommend this hotel to others, and my parents are already planning a stay.

We spent two nights in the Midland in a family room (kids aged 13 and 10) and had a wonderful stay. I had long wanted to visit this iconic building, but our time in Morecambe exceeded our expectations. The hotel staff were very friendly (we had fun bantering about how to pronounce "Lancaster") - it struck us that the fact the hotel is owned by a relatively small, family business rather than a large, international chain stood out in the quality and friendliness of the service (in particular in the very reasonably-priced spa where my daughter and I had a manicure and spent a lovely hour chatting to the beauty therapists).

The hotel itself is gorgeous - the architecture (Oliver Hill) and original artwork by Eric Gill are really special and worth making a visit to see in their own right. Other reviews had suggested that Morecambe was disappointing. It is run-down, there's no denying, but everywhere I got a sense of a town and council that are investing in its future and using imagination to try and reverse its fortunes (for example, the new trail of puzzles/artwork and playgrounds along the front which we would have explored more fully if we'd had better weather/more time. Of course, everyone was having their photo taken with the Eric Morecambe statue) . There are also a small number of new shops trying to make a go of it on the front (check out Alchemy which had just opened when we there - shabby chic, upcycling, some antiques - I found some lovely, very reasonably-priced one-offs).

As for things to do - by chance we discovered Carnforth station just up the road where Brief Encounter was filmed. There is a small heritage centre where, if you have the time and inclination, you can sit and watch the film in its entirety. And the Lakes aren't that far away. Staying at the hotel, you have free access to the leisure centre at the Midland's sister hotel in Lancaster (a shortish drive), so the kids enjoyed a hour or so's splashing at the end of the day.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but did have a meal in the bar. The food was really good - better than your average bar food. My steak was delicious and cooked just as I'd asked.

We'll definitely go back and really wish this hotel, as a significant part of our architectural heritage, a long and successful future.

We stayed here for two nights. Each time we asked to book for a meal we were told that we are fully booked, no other option was given to us, the staff just found it amusing. At breakfast extra milk was just slammed down on the table no acknowledgement. A very disappointing experience, such a shame.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not have smokers in the next room smoking out on the balcony.

We spent just one night in the Midland but wish we had booked for longer.
I had previously read about the restoration and refurb which is in my view a huge success. Our room was lovely with windows on two sides and a sea view. We just loved the way the cupboards, and the bathroom, were hidden away behind a wooden wall. The biggest surprise was the bathroom which was the full length of the room with an enormous free standing bath and a wet room. However the shower head which was also enormous, was very disappointing as the pressure was so low. But this is a minor niggle. The lavatory tucked away in a "box" initially took some finding - and even more so in the middle of the night!
Breakfast was fine, nothing special, but the view of sea whilst eating was wonderful.
All in all a lovely stay.

A group of us went to The Midland Hotel for afternoon tea for a friend’s birthday. We had a lovely few hours. The views are amazing while you are drinking your tea and tasting the lovely sandwiches and cakes. The only negative was we had to ask for refills etc. There was plenty of staff around but seemed to just leave you alone. On the whole I would recommend afternoon tea and the hotel itself looks stunning.
