“More than a B&B, lovely in every way.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2009

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary in September, and it was just lovely. We were greeted on arrival by Elizabeth with a pot of tea and homemade cake, much to my husband's delight! Our room was immaculate, beautifully decorated and the chocolates on the pillows at night were a lovely touch. Nothing was too much trouble for Alwyn and Elizabeth, the breakfast was fabulous, and we were impressed with locally sourced produce. Although the house is on a main road, it was remarkably quiet. We had a lovely weekend and would definitely recommend No. 9 to all. Would like to return sometime.

We decided on a weekend in Pickering and tried to book into another b n b but they were fully booked and gave us a list of others. We are so glad they were fully booked as our stay at No 9 was perfect.

I booked over the web and Elizabeth was very prompt replying and booking was very easy.

We arrived on the Friday evening and were greeted with a smile, friendly welcome and offered tea and home made cake. It was a lovely gesture and very welcome.

The room was beautiful and had all the amenities offered by a good small hotel. They operate a minibar system which is an honesty bar and you're asked to give a contribution to their chosen charity. The beds are the comfiest you have ever slept in!

Breakfast was wonderful in a very welcoming breakfast room. Elizabeth takes the orders and Aylwin cooks your breakfast. There's a great choice and they use organic and fairtrade wherever possible. As well as a great amount of locally sourced food.

No 9 is a lovely relaxing place and Aylwin and Elizabeth go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay. It's no wonder they've won awards. We are already thinking of going there again.

No. 9 B&B Pickering

We stayed here in August 2007 and were very pleased. It has a silver award from the Tourist board so we expected it to reasonably good but it was better than that.

The house is new but built in a period style. My son and I were biking at Dalby Forest and the owners (Aylwin & Elizabeth Hill) were happy to provide secure storage for the bikes.

The rooms were modern, well appointed and spotless.
I couldn't get the hang of the blinds though!

The bathroom was also very modern, well apponited and spotless. It could have done with a hook to hang a washbag.

They did not have a twin room for us but were happy to let my son sleep in a nice room across the landing (and use my ensuite) at no extra charge which I thought was very good.

Breakfast was lovely and big enough to feed the biggest appetite.

Aylwin also gave us some good tips for places to eat (an indian one night and an Italian the other) both of which were good (especially for a small town like Pickering).

There was parking available in the drive to No.9.

It was a bit of a walk (10 mins) but this was quite pleasant and you can park in town if you must take your car.

Thornton Road is a main road and there was some noise if you like to sleep with a window open but not a real problem. The rooms did get hot (well it was August but they supplied a fan)

We would definitely stay here again when we are in pickering.

I debated about giving it an excellent rating but this rating should be used very sparingly.
