“"Fantastic", will definitely go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2011

Visited Pickering over many years and this is the first time we stayed at No.9 B&B.

Met with a warm welcome by Elizabeth, and made to feel at home straight away, with a lovely cup of Yorkshire tea and home made carrot cake, just what you need after a long journey!

The rooms are spotless, bright, and very comfortable. The shower was superb and very much needed after a long day out on the east coast ! The bath towels are so soft and warm.

Aylwin cooks a superb English breakfast, and our parents had the fish option (smoked Mackeral, haddock and Salmon) which were equally as good. My wife has food allergies (Gluten/Wheat) and Elizabeth was extremely helpful and accommodating in meeting her needs.

Lots of little nice touches go down well - EG, There is a smalle fridge on the landing upstairs with all the little treats you like when away (chocolate, wine, beer etc) and a large bowl of crisps, not to mention the complimentary sherry. All they ask is that you put a small donation into a charity box downstairs if you have anything.

Each night when you return from your day out there is a chocolate on the bedside cabinet, the room has been cleaned and it's "toasty" warm.

Is there anything we can say negatively about this B&B?, absolutely not, Elizabeth and Aylwin have got this B&B to a very high first class standard, and it's more like a five star.

Superb, and see you both again soon!

Would highly recommend.

Had a lovely relaxing time at No9 BnB. The owners were very chilled to be around and made us feel so welcome. Lovely cake and refreshments on arrival!! Our room was immaculately clean, modern and cosy with fresh towels and dressing gown included along with complimentary shower gels, soap etc. En-suite again immaculate and modern with great power shower! Fantastic choices for breakfast made from all locally sourced foods where possible, freshly cooked to order and perfectly done. I had smoked haddock and it was gorgeous!! Full fry up available, no greasy spoon here just tasty, good food! with excellent service. Owners really helpful for places to eat out and to visit etc Even had mints by our bed when we had come back in the evening! small touches mean alot!!!! We will definatly be going back before the year is out and it will be sooner rather than later.

We arrived at no 9 thurs 18th aug, On arrival we were met by Elizabeth and what a warm welcome we got. After being shown to our room we were asked if we would like cake and tea (nice treat).
Our room was very modern and very clean. We had an en suite but only a shower, not a problem as the shower was so spacious. The room had everything you could want tea, biscuits, sky tv and if you had forgotten anything i'm sure it was either there, or Alwyn and Elizabeth could get it (nothing seemed to much trouble all the time we were there)
The breakfast was so so good kept me well stocked up for the day and very fresh too as it is all made to order. You also had complimentry sherry and if you used anything out of the mini bar you left a donation for there chosen charity.
The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk into the centre depending on who you are walking with. The hotel has a great location as it is close to every attraction.
The last thing i would say is this b&b is run just by Alwyn and Elizabeth they do everything and yet still seem to find the time to chat and make you feel so very welcome.Keep up the good work and i will definatley be back.

My wife and I stayed here on our first wedding anniversary and we were delighted at the overall quality and comfort we found. The decor is modern and warm in the bedroom and en suite - very comfortable bed, power shower, freeview tv etc. I can back up previous breakfast reviews as being accurate - smoked kipper for me on our second morning after the full english with extra thick cut bacon the morning before. I even asked if Alywin was previously a professional chef!! We have never stayed anywhere that has given us free sherry before and I'd like to start a campaign to spread this practice far and wide please!! Thankyou to Alywin and Elizabeth.
As well as bneing friendly welcoming hosts they also gave us good advice as to were to dine on Sunday (Appleby) And the sun shone all weekend!!!!!!

Excellent quality room, breakfast top-notch with possibly the best Black Pudding I've ever had. Complimentary Sherry (unlimited - within reason!) an unusual and welcome extra.

Surprised not rated higher in Pickering.

Very good for NYM Steam Railway, Moors and Coast access.

This was our second trip to No. 9 and we have had a wonderful time - again. Room - spotless. Furnishings - very comfortable. Breakfast - what a treat. And our hosts were the most helpful and friendly we could possibly have had. Nothing was too much trouble and always provided with a smile and a chat. We will most definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Booked a room here for two nights, when we received terms and conditions by email we rang to ask if we could have breakfast slightly later than the 815 - 845am window as it was a weekend stay and was told this wouldn't be a problem. Next day received a phone call advising that owner was not prepared to change his whole schedule for us, as it had worked well for years. He also seemed concerned that we had agreed to pay cash - saying we would need to pay on arrival and also felt the need to check up on us with another B&B that we had stayed at. He told us he didn't think No 9 was the establishment for us. Needless to say we cancelled the booking as i have never felt so unwelcome or had my integrity or honesty questioned by an establishment. Have just had a lovely weekend at another B&B in Pickering where we felt very welcomed and were able to have breakfast when it suited us - 9.00 as it happens.
