“Fantastic find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We were so lucky to find to find this place; it is out in the countryside in North Yorkshire in a lovely quiet setting.

We had booked a basic double room, we were pleasantly surprised by how much space we had, the bed was comfortable and we had plenty of storage for clothes.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome.

On the night we arrived there was a Spanish Themed event going on - Tapas with wine, music & a fun quiz, we had managed to book a table and we had a great time - the food was fantastic.

Breakfast was available from 7:30am and there was a plenty of choice, both cold and hot. Both mornings we opted for a full cooked breakfast and both mornings we were very happy with the quality and quantity.

On the second evening we ate in the restaurant - we had enjoyed the food on the first evening but it was surpassed by everything that we had the second evening.

I would be very happy to recommend this accommodation.

Stayed here for one night, was supposed to be 2 nights but illness meant cutting the stay short. Arrived late, staff were very helpful and sorted out our room quickly. The room was basic but clean and warm. Bathroom needed updating. Problems with hot water both from normal taps and an electric shower, which was the case at night when we arrived and the next morning. Very cold outside so put radiator on for the night, but had to switch it off after a couple of hours due to the noise it made which kept us awake. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant staff were very welcoming providing great service. Room 12 top of stairs above the bar and noisy when other residents come up the stairs.

I was recently walking in this area and came accross this pub. I fancied a chip butty or maybe something simple as it was a cold misty day. Unfortunately the menu is very upper market; lots of game dishes at expensive prices. The sort of thing you'd probably see on Masterchef.! I just had half a lager and left. If this is the sort of thing you are after then go for it, the menu did sound very very nice but just not what I expected. Pub itself is lovely, large and rambles with several different rooms. Worth a visit even if you just have a bag of nuts!

I stayed at the Blacksmith while attending a friends wedding. The wedding party took up all the rooms and the reception was held there. The Inn is located right on the edge of the moors and the purple heather nearby made the view spectacular. The food was delicious (and I had breakfast lunch and dinner there).

Coming from Canada the hotel owners were happy to organize a taxicab to meet me in Pickering at the bus stop and darned if that driver wasn't right there waiting when I arrived! :-)

The one disappointment was the shower in my room which was little more then a drizzle....though I did find many of the old inns around the UK were more geared towards baths then showers.

Room Tip: Isometric of the rooms have single beds, so if you move a lot in your sleep make sure you request on...

This is the 2nd time my partner and I have visited the Blacksmith Arms for a meal and it was lovely. We sat in the restaurant which had a few other couples eating as well. I had the lamb and my other half had the steak. The food was of a very high standard and very tasty! We had a pudding each as well and I think I definitely picked a winner with the sticky toffee pudding, it was soooo yummy!!! The staff were also very warm and welcoming and are a credit to the place. We would definitely return to the Blacksmith Arms for another meal and are also looking into it as a possible wedding venue too.
