“Anniversary break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

Ideally placed in the centre of Pickering. Very relaxing environment with seperate club house with bar for guest use to get away from the main bar if it gets noisy. The food was first rate and the wine list caters for all tastes. The suite we stayed in was spotless, quirky, fun and very comfortable. I had opted for the champagne package with chocolates and flowers for my wife and these were fantastic and from local suppliers in the village. I also surprised my wife with some therapy treatments from Vicky, all booked through the hotel and carried out in our room which my wife rated as 'blissfull'. During this time I took time to sample the range of real ales in the bar. All in all, a great place to have a relaxing break or to use as a springboard to explore this part of the country. I wouldn't hesitate in going back.

Found this hotel by chance whilst browsing N.Yorks hotels and liked the sound of it.
Booked the 'three for two nights ' package in a Vintage Double and were not disappointed.
Room quite small but with every facility and very clean en-suite. Bed and bedlinen superb quality - very comfy with lovely squishy pillows. Home-made biscuits on tea tray.
Found bar and restaurant prices pretty high.
Breakfasts great with lots of choice including Kedgeree. Nice welcome from friendly staff who kindly sent on some forgotten shoes!
Visited Whitby and Scarborough - both within easy reach, and Rievaux Abbey nr Helmsley is a must. Quite stunning. A good relaxing weekend We will return.

Room Tip: Good base for visiting Whitby and Scarborough .

Thank you for your kind review. I would love to charge less in the bar and restaurant but we need to maintain our margins or the bank will kick us out and you will be grunted at by someone with a name badge next time you come rather than by our smiling Tracy who doesn't need one. HOWEVER - my clever wife has just opened a Chef deli next door called Feast which has a fantastic cafe presided over by a talented chef called Tom. The food is great and NOT expensive as regularly price checked against the local supermarket in order to make sure we get plenty of local custom. Perhaps give that a whirl next time to save a wee bit on the extras.

We had a brilliant stay at the White Swan in the centre of Pickering. The food was excellent, the staff were extremely friendly and it was all topped off with perfect tasting pints of Black Sheep!
We were overlooked waiting for our dinner one night, but the staff were very apologetic and offered us a complimentary bottle of wine for keeping us waiting, which was a good enough apology for me. Also the Black Sheep, perfect though it tasted, was very pricey at £3.50 a pint!
Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back again.

Thank you for your generous review. Some would have consigned us to hotel hell for keeping you waiting so glad the wine helped. Keep your eye on our web site because if you are able to travel last minute Tracy and Lisa often do some mad deals that gets them into trouble at our weekly meetings!

The White Swan was chosen as a venue for a reunion of business colleagues and their wives, following a recommendation. The Hotel lived up to this in every respect including the use of a private dining room. The staff were efficient and friendly throughout and Tracie, on Reception, was most helpful dealing with a postponement and rearrangement due to weather.

Thank you for your review. We do a lot of sporting parties in the winter so small groups are something we like to think we do well. Hope business is booming so that you can come back soon. Tracy always enjoys a name check so thanks for that too.

We arrived to a very warm welcome and complimentary tea and coffee. Dinner was delicious and the wine was very reasonably priced with a good selection. The little things made the difference; complimentary papers, lots of glossy magazines in the club room (and a pool table!) which was nicely furnished also free canapes before dinner!

It reminded us of a Hotel Du Vin but with better food!

For our second night we stayed in a Contemporary Court Yard Room, which if you get a good rate would deffinately be our choice.

ALL of the staff were polite, professional and a credit to the hotel.

Room Tip: Book a Courtyard Room, well worth the extra £

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in a Vintage Inn room which was not huge but very clean and nicely furnished and equipped - big bath, plenty of hot water, bathrobes, comfortable bed. The amosphere was upmarket but relaxed. Lovely open fires. Could not find fault with the service or food - we had two breakfasts and two evening meals which were delicious and we stayed in the resturant all night without being rushed. The Club Room is an excellent extra facility for hotel guests. We have recommended this to our relatives who have already booked to stay next month.
