“Excellent location, quality accommodation and fabulous hosts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We found these cottages after reviewing several offerings in this area. We were not disappointed, and the place is fantastic, off the beaten track, but ideally placed for walking, and visiting local places in the car. We were welcomed by Ben and Sue had even taken the time to make some fruitcake, the log fire was in and the place spotlessly clean. We travelled with our Labradoodle Maisie, and I can recommend the setting, and accommodation, we stayed in the Middlehead cottage. A fantastic break, if it matters to you the mobile phone reception is poor, it was not an issue for us. Thank you to the hosts and we will visit again without a doubt.

Room Tip: Middlehead cottage is set to one side, has it's own drive and leads straight onto a large grasse...

I found these self catering cottages quite by accident through Britains Finest and they really delivered exactly what they said. The cottages are immaculate and cosy everything has been thought of even flasks for hot drinks when out on long walks. We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend away with our good friends, would love to return one day.
Thankyou Ben & Sue for your hospitality and big hugs to the lovely Finley your beautiful dog.

This was our first visit to Brock Cottage and hopefully not our last. The greeting was warm and friendly and the cottage was immaculately presented and was the best equipped we have ever stayed in. We have stayed in many self catering cottages over the years and this one certainly stands out as one of the best. Many thanks to Ben & Sue (and of course Finlay) for the time they must invest to keep the standards this high.

Cannot fault this excellent accommodation. Beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. Location is so peaceful and everything is enhanced by the friendly and helpful nature of the hosts Sue and Ben. Would not hesitate to recommend to others or go back ourselves. If it were possible to give it a six star rating I would do so!!

We spent a great week in August in Meadow's Edge. The cottage is beautifully furnished, a real home from home. On the edge of the north York moors you drive down a number of narrow tracks to reach it and, once there, can listen to the occasional whistle and chug of the north Yorkshire steam train, the birds in the forest and absolutely nothing else. Sue and Ben are delightful hosts. Available if needed, but unobtrusive. We enjoyed our chats and they have excellent local knowledge.

  • Liked — Quality of accommodation
  • Disliked — Some of the pot-holed access roads

Cropton Forest Lodge is a unique holiday destination, certainly far from the crowds and yet within easy reach of the popular North York Moors attractions and the superb Yorkshire coast. We chose this as a place to unwind and do something completely different and walked every day in the tranquil forest. The cottage was very well equipped and beautifully presented. We really enjoyed the warm hospitality of our hosts, Sue and Ben, for whom nothing ever seemed too much trouble. Sometimes they knew what we needed before we did! This is our third time at Cropton Forest Lodge and we will be back again before long! Thanks again for a memorable holiday!!!
