“A beautiful and tranquil location for a quiet holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

We stayed in May 2012 in Cropton Forest Lodge and really enjoyed the cottages and location. The cottages are finished to the highest standard we have ever seen, they were immaculately clean and the owners were very friendly. The location is stunning and would suit anyone looking for a peaceful week in the North York Moors.

They were also very well organised for my muddy outdoor gear and mountain bike. Having a large drying room to keep everything out the cottage was excellent given the rather damp Summer.

We spent 4 wonderful nights in Middlehead Cottage at Cropton before we reluctantly returned home. The location was absolutely perfect - peaceful, relaxing and a multitude of scenic walks from the door. The cottage was amazing - as we discovered were all of the cottages when we were shown around by Ben. Sue and Ben were the perfect hosts - they were on hand for our every need and made us feel like long lost friends. The pre-information pack so carefully prepared by Sue was a clear signal of the perfection that awaited us at Cropton. Ben and Sue have attended to every detail as they have lovingly restored and developed the Lodge and cottages. We will definitely return soon. Lesley, Kev and Barney (the dog).

Room Tip: Every cottage is amazing and Ben and Sue are very particular - only one cottage is available as '...

Just arrived back today from Cropton Forest Lodge and felt we should say what a lovely pleasant place it is. I found this place last year through Alistair Sawday's website and decided to save it and I am so happy I did just that.
The owners Sue and Ben and Finlay the dog are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had a five night stay in Willows End as I requested a cottage with a bath, and were so pleased with the quality of the accommodation and the cleanliness was second to none.
We actually forgot to thank Sue and Ben for washing our dirty walking gear and drying out our boots when we had a great walk through Cropton Forest on our first afternoon there. As we said nothing was too much trouble. The welcome pack was really appreciated and the kindling and logs for the wood burning stove went down extremely well. The lack of mobile was not a problem as there is a landline anyone can use in the boot room.
The views are great and we were so lucky to see a young stag walking across the field out of our bedroom window early one morning. The wildlife was marvellous. We hoped to do a Badger watch but unfortunately there wasn't time.
Our headboard in the main bedroom in Willows End was wonderful and Ben being a great craftsman made this as well as the beams and most of the woodwork in the cottages. You can also tell that Sue has quite a flair with the decoration and quality of the fabrics etc., in the cottages at Cropton. Thanks also for all the info on the surrounding areas. This place is so peaceful that we didn't want to leave but will definitely return for a second helping. All the best Sue and Ben and hope to see you in the near future.
Kind regards Tricia and Steve

we have spent a peaceful week in the dog friendly cottage at cropton. The dog was made very welcome and so were we.The weather was a bit disappointing so nice to have the log burner. It really is the ideal place to stay if you want to get away from everything.Nice walks and good for wildlife.

After reading all the previous reviews we were looking forward to our short break. We were not disappointed and had a lovely, cosy, realxing time with our teenage daughters. The lack of phone signal was a real plus for us (not so for them) as we got their attention. The accommodation was spotless, warm and very comfortable. The forest walks were a great adventure and we had such a lovely time. Many thanks to Ben and Sue.

Room Tip: Stayed in Meadows Edge

Sue and Ben are perfect hosts. Due to unforeseen circumstances our three day jubilee break had not gone to plan! However, as soon as we arrived at Willows End cottage and met Sue and Ben, all our stresses melted away! The cottage was warm, spotlessly clean, and tastefully decorated. All the communal areas were spacious and well equipped with seating areas designed for enjoying the peace and tranquility. The grounds are spacious and the gardens beautifully planted - a haven for local wildlife. Cropton Lodge is in an excellent position for visiting Pickering, the Yorkshire Moors and coastal towns including Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. We just wish we had been able to stay for longer and enjoy the local walks accessible from our cottage door! Cropton Lodge is a gem with hosts who know how to make your holiday perfect - whatever the weather!

We stayed in Meadows Edge cottage from 18/05/2012 to 21/05/2012 which was not long enough so have booked to stay again in October. We was very impressed at the quality of the accommadation and attention to detail, so comfortable and homely. We received a very warm welcome from Ben & Sue, they are a lovely couple, great hosts and really helpfull nothing is too much trouble. Our dog Buster had great fun with Finn !!!. This is an ideal place for peace & quiet, long walks, friendly pubs serving great food and lovely scenery.
I would recommend Cropton Forest Lodge to anyone.
