Description: The Bunch of Grapes at Ynysangharad Road Pontypridd backs onto one of the last few remnants of the Glamorganshire Canal which was constructed in 1792. Built circa 1800 to satisfy the thirst of the hot forge masters who were making all the heavy anchor chains for the British Navy and all the passing canal workers on their way with to Cardiff with full loads of Coal and Iron Ore, business was brisk with male dominated ale consumption. This trend continued to well into the mid 1900's. It is rumoured that when Isombard Kingdom Brunel came to visit the Chainworks he was so impressed with what he saw and on securing the deal to supply him he celebrated with an ale in the Bunch of Grapes. Now tastefully and sympathetically refurbished the Bunch of Grapes offers a warm relaxed atmosphere both in the public bar and the restaurant where the emphasis is on quality, locally sourced foods, ales and ciders. “'Posh' pub grup”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

We have always eaten at the pub whenever we have been in the area, we even entered the quiz (In hughton we trust) we usually go at night but with a new addition to the family this was not viable due to her bedtime,so we went for a lunch time visit, however it was as enjoyable as a nightime visit. We could order off the lunch time menu and the pub menu (the best of both worlds), and were given a childs menu for the head of the table. Our food took a little while, as the manager who we recognised from our last visit was enjoying a meal in his fine pub. Once our food came we instantly forgot about the delay and tucked in. The childrens menu was not like any normal pubs childrens menu who require the captains help to cook fish fingers or youngs to cook a battered fish. It was homemade! Beautiful fish bites cooked to perfection it shows they care about your child as it also has games for children to play with. Back to the food I had the belly pork sandwich, which I would recommend to anyone ordering of the lunch menu. I look forward to going to wales every time the trip comes up, but I also look forward to come back to the bunch of grapes

“always pay this place a visit when in South Wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Always love spending time in the B.O.G as it is consistently a nice experience with good food (great burger), varied, well kept ales (try Otley Gold), a nice deli and friendly staff and locals. A proper, traditional pub with some great modern twists as well. It has retained it's old fashioned charm and feel whilst providing all the modern approaches of a gastro pub. Very good indeed.

“Simply delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

With an ever changing menu, yes, that's right. A menu that changes on a daily basis. Surely they are setting themselves up to fail? Absolutely not.

The chef(s) delight themselves on sourcing local foods and ensure their menu is riddled with a variety of top quality ingredients, from meats, fish, fruit and vegetables. Taking this into account I can simple say that my experiences of this restuarant have never failed to leave the taste buds in awe.

I recently went with my husband. He had the 14oz T Bone steak and I enjoyed the Pumpkin Risotto with Red Pepper Coulis. Neither of us could find fault. It was cooked to perfection. We then shared the recurrent, coconut and elderflower cheesecake. Wow.

If you're an ale drinker make sure you sample one of their many many choices.

You will also be treated and greeted by a number of very friendly and incredibly helpful staff.

I hope you enjoy 'The Bunch of Grapes' as much as we do.

“Yummy Food :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

This is the second time I have been to this pub and always had a nice meal.

Sunday lunch was lovely as a group all had Roasts and the Beef and Lamb tasted gorgeous and came with all the trimmings and plenty of Gravy!

We were in a family group and sat in the main restaurant out the back and a very nice atmosphere and enjoyed by all.

Visited a couple of weeks ago for lunch with some family and had a lovely light lunch of Focaccia bread with different combinations we all had something different and all looked great, between us we had Focaccia Bread with Caramelised red onion and melted goat cheese, Seared Tuna, and Field mushrooms, melted local cheese and bacon all came with a few chips on the side.
Very filling and good value.
The only down side was we had to wait quite a while and the bar area was having some work done but guess places have to make improvements.
Friendly staff and locals though.
Hopefully will return at some point.
