“It was OK - but could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

We stayed here on a Sunday evening - it was very quiet and we felt like a bit of an inconvenience. When we arrived there was no one to be found on the reception desk, we rang the bell and waited, there was a lot of noise coming from the dining room so I went to investigate only to find the staff including the receptionist laughing and joking there whilst stripping table cloths etc. The receptionist wasn't very welcoming and at first couldn't find our booking but then found it - she directed us to our room which was to be in the coach house.

The room was very basic and fairly dated but it was clean. There was no remote for the TV and the ceiling lights were exterior light fittings - the type of thing you would have outside yoour shed! Having said that we had a good nights sleep and it was very quiet - if it's a bed for the night you're after then this place is great but the rooms could be very nice if they were upgraded and a little attention to detail spent on them.

The lounge area is very nice and a nice facility for residents, the grounds are well kept and this is a lovely location.

Overall - it's hospitality that is lacking here - there didn't seem to be any polish on what they were trying to achieve. All the right ingredients but just not quite hitting the mark which is a shame. They need to go the xtra mile to make guests feel welcome, push the expectations... the type of thing I would expect from a country hotel as opposed to a city brand.

Room Tip: Avoid Coach House - try main building.

Decided to try this establishment as I heard some good reports. Unfortunately, my visist for Sunday Lunch was disappointing. The service was very good and attentive and I cannot fault that at all, but they were let down by the roast beef meal served. The soup starter was small, in a bowl similar to cup-a soup, and although the main course roast beef was fine, the vegetables were child portion I believe. On the plate with the beef were two roast potatoes and the accompanying vegetable selection comprised of some carrots and greens in strips, one floret of cauliflower and two boiled potatoes.
I appreciate I was single diner, but the soup starter and main course were a let down and certainly not good value for money. Lovely building, in a good setting and in my case very good waitres service, but not worth a return.

A very grand 3 star hotel that should be a 4 star, resembling a small country house, rooms were of a very superior standard, full service with menu, all mod cons and plenty of tea and coffee in the room, ideal for offical receptions and weddings, marvelous panoramic views of the welsh hills for 380 degrees around the hotel, I wish I was staying for more than one night.

Had a groupon voucher which was very good valus for money.
When we got there, we liked the surrounding picturesque views and the decor was lovely.
We stayed in room 1 which had a lovely 4poster bed and beautiful views accross the mountain.
We had a 3course meal which included duck to start, beef & chicken roast for main course and creme brulee. The starter and main were above average, however, we found the main a little stale, the veg was more than 'al dente' and the gravy was instant which put me off.
The staff were quite attentive, especially the on duty manager who got us some new batteries for the TV remote control when we asked.
We would stay here again.

We recently went to Llechwen Hall as a family for sunday lunch on Easter Sunday. Upon arrival we were greated by the lovely Leanne who asked if the children in our group would like to take part in their Easter egg hunt (something we were not expecting) The children were so excited and it was such a lovely touch to what turned out to be a gorgeous lunch time treat.

The food was beyond beautiful, and the service exceptional. Nothing was too much for the staff who were busy serving all three restaurant rooms.

The hotel is situated on top of a mountian, and the veiws were just breath taking (we were lucky we had the weather to go with it) As you walk in to the hotel, there is such a welcoming feeling.

We will definatley be returning!!!

this is the second time I have been to the restaurant for an evening meal with work colleagues. It did not disappoint and the food was excellent and the service was very good. The food was well presented and cooked and arrived hot. There was a large group but none of us was kept waiting. Definitely a place to try.

I'm amazed at the positive reviews of this place. It's like Fawlty Towers. The reception is threadbare and the whole place should have been refurbished about 30 years ago. The staff, whilst pleasant, clearly don't really give a monkeys and have no idea about customer service. My room didn't have a remote for the TV and when I asked for one at reception I was told that so many had been stolen that they had stopped replacing them. So no remote then? No, sorry.

The TV didn't have any signal so couldn't use it manually.

When I went into the bathroom the bath was full of black hair - utterly gross. The room itself was just about ok, and a decent size, but was cold and damp. The mattress was so worn out it sagged in the middle. The duvet and pillows were long past their replacement dates.

The breakfast - now this was the highlight. Nicely cooked bacon and eggs, decent toast, but milk etc came in worn out metal pots the type of which you see in school dining rooms.

The name "Llechwen Hall" conjures up images of a grand and glamorous place. Believe me, nothing could be further from the truth. Most grating is the fact that the images on the hotels website make the place actually look nice, and can only be described as misleading.

One small glimmer of hope - at least there was free wifi (thank God, otherwise I'd have gone mad). Oh, the view is nice. Big deal.

I will not be back.
