“3 hours for cold food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We arranged a meal for a business group. 14 people with an appropriate booking to support a group this large. When we arrived at half six, the car park was mostly empty. Maybe 4 to 6 other patrons. We were seated promptly and given menus. Drink service was prompt on the first round. Then we ordered starters and mains. Starters took over 45 minutes to arrive. The food was cold to warm. Nothing was hot. You would think the mains would follow right behind, but you would be wrong. Mains took an additional 45 minutes, at which point we almost up and left. 3 of the pies were cold in the center, and the fish in the fish and chips plate was overcooked to the point you had to hammer it apart to eat. Honestly, this is a lovely inn, but the food is below average and the service and attention to detail is missing. The drinks were fine if that is your intention...otherwise there are too many better locations in Horley to find. Our suggestion is to PASS on this.

“Don't be put off by bad reviews!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

My wife and myself have visited the Shipley bridge on many occasions.
Due to pressure of work and various other things we haven't been there since just before last Christmas.
We decided to book a table on good Friday evening.
The week before Easter I was looking at the Trip Advisor website to check up on our Holiday Hotel that we have booked for later in the year.
I was surprised to find a string of bad reviews for the Shipley Bridge.
Anyway, we went along on Good Friday Evening, we were warmly welcomed by the bar staff and shown to our table.
The waitress very very attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble.
The food as always was plentiful and delicious, and the staff were first class.
To be honest I know that sometimes places have an "off day", I think that the People who have had a bad experience at the Shipley Bridge must have experienced one of these.
We'll be back!

“Good pub grub!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

A nice rustic pub with a good selection of food and wine. The place is out of town and peacefull,it has a selection of outdoor seating and also covered. The specials board had a very good selection mains and starters. The staff were very helpful and polite. We would visit again1

“A real shocker”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We went here for a birthday meal and I can honestly say go somewhere (anywhere!) else;

Arrived 7.45 - 30 min wait for food (fair enough).

Ordered sometime after 8....they didn't have half their special fish menu
Starters a full hour later which were basic and bland....plates got collected a good 20 mins after finishing

Mains turned up just after 10 despite being told at 9.30 (they are just plating up!). We then had to ask for those to get cleared...

One course was wrong and the rest were dried up and horrible! The waitress made no apology and didn't offer us a drink while we waited and was generally miserable.

Left 10.30pm...after the 'Duty Manager' apologised that they didn't have enough food and weren't used to being busy on a Saturday night, we got a discount but that doesn't give you your evening back...

“Not the best in the world.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Well this pub has gone right down hill since they had a new manager who is never there and runs the place as a hobby! The food is never as you order now and takes an age to come to the table,The owners should take a long hard look at this so called manager, even other staff are leaving because of him.
