“Good deal for parking and stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

Overall the package price to stay with Car was very good.

The rooms are adequate, although my sister had an attic room that was not so good!!

We opted for the meal the night before, and this was very good quality

The breakfast was not quite so good, limited to full english, and a few cereals, but overall for the money good value.

Bedroom was basic but adequate, bathroom area needed a tidy up and some repairs to doors nd general silicone areas.

This is a budget stay designed for one night and parking so do not expect to much and you will be fine

Room Tip: attic rooms are height restricted so worth a check

Good afternoon Weary-Traveller007.

Thank you for recent review about our hotel.

I am please to see that your over all stay with us was rather pleasant, just a few minor details we could improve on.

If you would mind to drop me an email with regard to what room you stayed in so we could ask one of the repair team to fix up those areas you mentioned about.

If you didn't book direct before and you would like to stay with us again we offer a discount for returning customers.

I wish you all the best,

Acorn Lodge

Stayed last night at the end of our holiday. Arrived at 2am, gasping for a cup of tea, only to find only 1 tea bag and no milk in the room. No one on reception to ask for more. Room was small and dirty looking. Big cobwebs in the corner, damp in the bathroom, extractor fan not working and no mattress protector on the bed. Only 1 pillow each and the bed was lumpy. Fire doors in the corridor were propped open.
Breakfast was ok, but definitely DO NOT recommend, and won't be staying here again. Can't understand how it's got 4 stars.

Stayed at this hotel on the way to Jordan and on the way back. The first room we had was perfectly acceptable (not 4 star) although the noise from the main road didn't stop all night. The return the following week however was dreadful. The room was so small that two of us and two suitcases took up all the available floor space. There were 3 pieces of furniture in the room, a bed, a table and a chair. On one side the bed was about six inches from the wall - impossible to get in and out of bed on that side. The other side had the table right up to the bed and I banged my elbow on it very badly in the night - at least it wasn't my head!! The so-called en-suite was so small that we had to dry ourselves in the room and there was no space for toiletries but at least the afore-mentioned table was right up to the en-suite so we could place toiletries on there and not leave the shower room to use them. The door to the shower room was a sliding door that threatened to fall down each time it was used (it didn't close very well)
I think it was a disgrace to charge £66.99 for a room that you couldn't swing a cat in. The hotel's website description does not sound anything like the experience we had - no fresh flowers in the room and no hair dryers.
I have e-mailed the hotel manager but as yet (4 days later) have had no response what-so-ever.
The transfers to the airport were very efficient

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the main road and try to ascertain if the room is a decent size

Good Afternoon Virginia F,

Thanks for writing your recent view about our hotel. We welcome all feed back weather it be good or bad. We do value our guests and their opinions, endeavoring to improve on standards and service where possible.

I'd like to address the matter of your return stay with us. When customers stay with us on there return from there holiday we do try and put them in comfortable quiet rooms at the back of the property so they are able to get a good nights sleep before a journey home the following day. In this case you were put in a quiet room away from the main road as you clearly stated the road traffic can be a tad noisy.
I'm extremely sorry you felt this room was not comfortable enough for you and your partner. I'm not sure if you made this aware to the receptionist who was on duty at that particular time? We are always happy to change rooms where possible for our guests.

The price you had paid for your room was actually booked through a 3rd party- Holidays Extras so of course there fees are on top of that price.
Hair dryers are available on request- we no longer keep them in the rooms as strangely they were going missing!

Id ask that if you were to book with us again please book directly we can arrange a quiet bigger room for yourself and for returning customers we do offer a discount.

Please accept my apologizes and await a response from the manager in due course.

All the best

Katrina

Very pleased with the service. Excellent transfer to airport there and back. Beautiful room very clean. Breakfast a little on the small side but very quick and hot. Not sure if our car had been moved about while we were away as it was very dirty. All in all very pleased and would definitely return.

Hi just stayed at acorn lodge on our return from eygpt holiday , ideal location to airport , transfer went without a hitch , breakfast was excellent very well presented , Our room like I suspect most needs some updating which I think the current owners are working towards as our bathroom was modern and stylish like the breakfast area , overall would recommend and stay again .the added bonus is we had car there for the week as well .

My sister and I stayed one night before our early start the next day. Our initial impressions were very favourable as I had literally booked at the last moment so wasn't sure what we would get.
The hotel is in an excellent location on the Brighton Rd with ample car parking. Our room was at the front and though made up as a double it was quickly turned round into a twin.
While waiting we had a coffee but though service was prompt there was a definite attitude coming off the staff.
I would stay again but just remind the owner that some people arrive very weary after a day at work. Some friendliness wouldn't go amiss.
One other thing I would like to point out - the bathroom is a bit of a safety hazard. You have to step high up into the bath for a shower and safety handles and anti slip strips would be ideal especially for older guests.

Good afternoon nickinbracknell,

Thanks for the recent review on our hotel.

I've taken not of the feed back regarding the bathrooms- ill be sure to get someone on to it as quickly as possible.

I'm terribly sorry you didn't feel the warm welcome you deserved! I personally will be reminding our staff that customer service is one of the most important services we can provide.

I hope you would choose to stay with us again next time

Thanks again

We needed a hotel and parking for our recent holiday flying from Gatwick. We booked the Acorn for a nights stay at either end of our holiday with parking.
The room was very clean with a small but well furnished bathroom, the bed was very comfortable and the shower had lots of hot water.
Our evening meal was reasonably priced and of very good quality, the cooked breakfasts were excellent.
Our early morning call and transport to the airport were done very efficiently and smoothly.
On our return to Gatwick we were picked up within 10 minutes of our phone call and booked into our room with the minimum of fuss.
If you require a Gatwick hotel I would recommend the Acorn for superb value for money.
