“Ideal for early start”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

With an early start the following morning this hotel proved to be the correct choice for us. Cheap and cheerful we got there around 9.30 pm booked in with the minimum of fuss and arranged for the mini bus to take us to Gatwick the following morning. We found the whole process simple and the rooms were clean and of an high standard we will certainly use this facility again. Can't get a better recommendation than that!

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room at the rear of the hotel as we were slightly disturbed with cars coming and go...

Restaurant good: selection of Indian and English. Good staff. Very helpful and courteous Minibus driver to airport. They put your car somewhere and it's ready on your return. Rooms nice and clean. Car park a bit dodgy but no real problems. It's only for one night, after all.

Room Tip: Don't rely on your sat nav. Our Tom Tom took us straight past the place. This is not the fault...

I think the review below almost covers most of our dreadful stay and experience with Days Hotel Gatwick. Firstly we arrive and the guy behind the desk could barely speak English meanwhile why trying to understand our booking the phone rings and he decides to rudely ignore us and answer the phone. After we finally got sorted and in to our room we was ready for dinner so we went in to their "bar" "restaurant" which claimed on the website to have sky sports channels and would be playing football as you can imagine my husbands disappointment when they did not have any of this and his team were playing that night (so we went to a lovely friendly local pub round the corner (kings head) lovely food and had the football on) when we got back we wanted to take a shower as we had an early start the next morning well we couldn't get any hot water what so ever out of the shower but the bath was ok! The beds are small and very uncomfortable there was springs broken in the middle which was very uncomfortable for us. However we got up early for our bus transfer which was on time and prompt.

After a lovely holiday but an exhausting 14hour journey home the only thing we want to be doing is getting in our carr and making the journey home promptly. We walked to the bus stop and phoned the hotel for the driver to come collect us which was all fine he arrived in 10minutes as promised and we got back to the hotel quickly however we now had to deal with yet another member of staff not able to speak fluent English or understand it and they had lost our car keys and yet agai while trying to arrange us out they are doing 1000 other things at the same time as well as answering the phone no manners what so ever! It took around another 15 minutes and then we was finally out of there to see the car filthy of mud covered in bird poo , like it had been sitting in a swamp! Definitely not worth saving the money instead of parking in Gatwick for double the price.

Like they say, you get what you pay for !

We opted to stay at the Days Inn, as it appeared to offer good deals on a 2 week stay/park package.

First impressions of the hotel, were of a premises that were not cleaned to a high standard, and I found it very difficult to make myself understood to the staff who appeared to have only a slight grasp of the English language.

The entrance hall was grotty, and the whole place is in need of serious refurbuishment (or knocking down)

Checked into the room, which was dated, but actually ok i guess, with the actual bed probably being the high point.

The it all started to go wrong.

We made our way down to the bar area, which just felt so strangely wrong. Cant really put my finger on why, but the hole place just didn't seem to know what i wanted to be. A restaurant, a bar, an indian, a cafe...take your pick....just was not a pleasant space to enjoy.

Anyway at their mercy and with an early start we decided to risk eating, and a quick drink.

Beer was again was ok, but not much they can wrong with a pint i suppose.

The food on the other hand was absolutely dreadful. I opted for something that was supposed to be chicken, but looked (and probably tasted) more like a well worn insole from a very old pair of shoes, along with diced frozen vegetables, that were still cold.
If im in a cafe I could just about live with this, but for so a so called chef in a restaraunt that is charging high prices it is totally unacceptable, and shows the lack of respect for customers that this " chef" must have. How any chef in any restaurant could use the cheapest of frozen veg in this way is bad enough, but on a £12 dish it is despicable.

So suitably underwhelmed from the dining experience we hit the bed early, and did actually get a good nights sleep.

Up early for our morning flight we hit the shower early, (around 5:30am) to be greeted with stone cold water in the shower. After 5 minutes trying to explain my problem to reception I was advised to let the shower run for 10 minutes to warm up ! Really ???
15 minutes later as good as it got, was a luke warm shower for all of us ! Just what you want to wake you up and put you in a good mood for a long haul flight.

Mentioned this issue at reception, and all i got was shrug of the shoulders, and a "well what can we do, we cant make the hot water come quicker "

For the final misdemeanour we do take a small amount of responsibility, as we did leave a personal possession in the room when we checked out, but we realised this the minute we got out of the shuttle bus.

I immediately phoned the hotel, told them we had left something in the room, and could they put it safe, with the car keys and we would collect it on our return.

Lo and behold 2 weeks later, we arrive back, and nada...the receptionist pulled out the call log book, and said look, no comments, no-one made a note of this....erm, so surely that makes it worse. ????

Half an hour of arguing later and i just had to walk out. The girl behind the reception had no idea....im all for immigrants being allowed to work here, but a basic grasp of English really should be paramount... So bottom line is despite calling them, and telling them we left something in the room, and them promising to keep it safe, they didnt even log the call, and carry out a simple request.

I am really not joking hen i say that i would not allow cats and dogs to stay in this hotel let alone humans. It really is possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and will never go within a mile of the place again..

We thank the staff for providing us with exceptionally clean and comfortable overnight accommodation prior to flying out from Gatwick on holiday. The staff were efficient and provided very good service. The room was spotless, the bed comfy. The breakfast was limited but fine for £5. Pre pay for breakfast -it's cheaper. The transfer to the airport was good. We would definitely stay here again.

We arrived at the hotel at 8 pm to be greeted with an entranceway full of school children. Ok not the fault of the hotel. Eventually got to the reception to book in to be met by an exceptionally grumpy receptionist. As soon as he had eventually found us he threw a piece of paper at us and demanded we sign it. This was a carpark disclaimer saying that we had no recompence should they damage our car while moving it or in their carpark. We questioned this and were bluntly told it was standard. We were not happy but had little choice, no attempt to explain or put our minds at rest. The receptionist had a take it or leave it attitude with no real concern towards us as customers.

The room was ok, a basic room no real issues. Lovely view of cars parked within a few inches of

each other all very tightly packed in causing us further concern. Also very close to walls. We asked for a taxi in the morning as we had an early flight, this turned out to be a private hire car that was not plated. However, it all turned out ok and was as cheap to use this service as it was to usd thd hotel mini bus. We were told we needed to call them
from the airport on our returnto ensure our car was ready, which we dutifully did. However they are not easy to get hold of and the phone kept cutting off.... During the phone call ( when we eventually got through)the same receptionist tried to send us the minibus to collect us even though we informed him we would get a taxi. He told us it was a courtesy service which I then asked if there was a charge which there was. We told him again we did not require the minibus to which he told us the taxi would be way more expensive. We explained that the taxi was not expensive on our journey to the airport and he continued to be argumentative saying it was not a normal taxi they booked for us. We explained it was fine we had the card for the private hire company and eventually he accepted our arguement. The private hire car appeared within 10 minutes and text us the registration. This time the car also had a meter and a roof top sign displaying thd name of the company and was all very easy.
Will not be staying here again!!! If you do stay here use the private transfer and hope your car is safe!!!

We thought we got a good deal booking the 'Skylane' for one night on return from holiday, mainly because of the inclusive parking. The hotel was reasonably clean and appointed; most of the staff helpful. We did have a problem with the 'shuttle bus' - we booked in after immigration, and did not have to wait very long for baggage, but it appears that the bus did not find us driving past the bus stop (I guess about 5 mins before we got there). We waited about 30 mins (2330 hrs), then phoned the hotel again; they said they had not found us, and it was now too late !

Room Tip: Never mind rooms; make very sure you arrange pick-up in detail... get them to do more than a drive...
