We stayed in the Governor Aiken room in early October, 2004. The views are great out on the lake, and if you do stay here, I would suggest driving down the main road that goes around Lake Willoughby for some excellent views. They also have some nice hiking trails around the Inn as well. However, the Governor Aiken room is the first room next to the dining room, so if you decide to stay in this room, you will undoubtedly hear (as we did) clanking dishes every night from 5:30 to 9pm as they served dinner. Also, the Willoughvale Inn has a main highway right outside (inbetween the inn and lake), so you can hear each and every car go by when you are inside (or while trying to enjoy sitting on the deck). We had a problem with noisy heating units, as every time they turned on, it made a very loud clanking noise. It was so bad that I had to sleep with earplugs each night we were there. There is not much to do around the Willoughvale Inn, and not many restaurants either. We ate at the restaurant at the nearby country club (9th green), and it was excellent. The Willoughvale Inn does serve free cookies and lemonade every day at 4pm, which was nice.

Would highly recommend a stay in one of the cabins--with their private docks, screen porches and open decks, gas fireplaces, etc. Very clean and comfy! And the inn itself is lovely, staff very friendly, kayaks and canoes ready to go at the lake's edge. But proceed with caution if dining in the restaurant! Our dinner experience was very disappointing--simple pastas were drenched in some sort of cheese and barely edible. We're looking forward to going back to stay in one of the cabins, but will avoid the restaurant. The cabin had all kitchen facilities and a gas grill on the deck...

What a great place - we stayed in the Robert Frost cabin! Didn't hurt that our stay was during peak weekend for the leaves. We had a little problem with our reservations - was shorted one night - but it worked out. The people were just wonderful and very accomodating. Had requested that they not clean our cabin as we had our pets were with us and unlike most places, our request was followed. The food at the Inn was tremendous. Would recommend to anyone. We are planning a trip in September 2005 to do some fishing.
