I am a U.S. traveler who needed an airport hotel for an early 7:00 am flight out of Heathrow.
Premier Inn Terminal 5 was an excellent choice in location, accessibility, comfort, and price. However, be very careful when you are looking for buses and accessibility to the correct Premier Inn Heathrow Airport. They have 3 locations and TWO are located on Bath Road. One, in fact, is called Premier Inn Heathrow Bath Road. This review is NOT for that Premier Inn, rather the Premier Inn Heathrow Terminal 5 (T5).
Now, what I would suggest is you try to figure out which Terminal you will be departing from and then choose your Premier Inn (one would suspect the other two locations are equally as affordable, comfortable, and easy for travelers). I thought I was to fly out of T4 as a Heathrow employee assured me "yes all United Airlines flights depart from T4." Just fyi, this is not true.
I took a bus from Oxford to Heathrow T5 and then the Hotel Hoppa buses service all the airport hotels. You should look online first to identify which bus serves your hotel. As of 06 Sept 2013, Hotel Hoppa bus H58 served Premier Inn Heathrow T5. This bus does not return to T4. So, in the morning, I simply walked across the street (50 yards) to the Thistle Hotel and caught the Hotel Hoppa Bus H51 to Terminal 4.
This is an aside but thank you, United, for announcing via email after I had already arrived at T4 that my flight would now depart out of Gate 929 WITHOUT INFORMING ME THIS WAS A DIFFERENT TERMINAL!!! After waiting for Business Class checkin for over 20 minutes - for some reason 8 United employees were standing behind the ropes and not making eye contact nor letting us know the reason for not allowing Business and First Class check in while Economy was moving right along -- I inquired to an employee who promptly notified me I was now departing out of Terminal 1. Geez.
Here are pros for Premier Inn Heathrow T5:
Computerized check-in for those who like easy access. They allow you to do add-ons such as breakfast, dinner, etc. or simply decline them all.
Clean rooms, adequate storage for an overnight trip.
Completely quiet airport hotel. Not a sound of a jumbo jet engine to be heard.
Affordable airport access via Hotel Hoppa buses (4 GBP one-way, 7 GBP round-trip if bought by machine. If purchased from driver, 4.50 GBP one-way, 8 GBP round-trip and this includes transfers bw terminals).
Good size, quiet hair dryer
Tons of TV channels
Well-insulated. Not only can you not hear jumbo jets, you likewise do not hear neighbors or the hallway.
Front desk is staffed 24-hours a day
The in-room safe was locked and the staff said it couldn’t be unlocked until morning. When I inquired if I could switch to another room, they stated that all the in-room safes were locked for the evening and couldn't be opened until tomorrow. Weird. But if I wanted to store something, I could keep it in the safe downstairs (which I did).
The toilet paper is not in rolls, rather in sheets. You pull them out one-by-one much like facial tissue. Very cumbersome.
This is extremely minor and I do not mind this but beware: no individual toiletries, they are attached to the wall (liquid hand soap and liquid shower gel only. No shampoo or conditioner.)
Overall, an excellent stay and value. I did not partake in Thyme restaurant or breakfast but the options for both looked more than tasty and affordable. I would definitely recommend the Premier Inn brand of airport hotels for Heathrow airport. Just pick the one with most convenient access to your terminal (fyi, it may not be Premier Inn Heathrow T5 due to having only T5 access).
