“The worst stay of our trip.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2006

This Hotel, and the events surrounding it, turned out to be our worst thing that happened to us in the weeks we stayed in Europe. Thank God it was the last day of our vacation.

My wife, our 10-year old daughter and I booked through Holiday Inn for 2 rooms with a twin and a double since they did not have a triple for our last night in England. We wanted to be close to the airport for 7:00 AM flight. We told Holiday Inn we were getting to the airport by Underground train and would check in the afternoon-evening. No other information was given to us by Holiday inn.

We got to the airport Terminal 1 and found no information regarding hotel transportation. Asking at the Airport Information Desk we were told to buy a Hoppa Bus ticket (we were almost out of British pounds) at a booth. The booth was operated by two people selling everything under the sun including hotel reservations, tours, theater tickets and Hoppa Bus tickets. After waiting for almost an hour for three people get their stuff we got our Hoppa Bus tickets and proceeded through a small, hard-to- find, unmarked door to the bus stop. At the Bus Stop, there was a person selling ONLY Hoppa Bus tickets! Why didn't the Airport Information Desk know that?

We get to the Hotel and they have our reservations but tell us the Hoppa Buss will not be running when we needed to be at the airport (5:00 AM). We demanded a refund of the Hoppa Ticket which the clerk gave us and asked for alternative solutions. We were told to take TWO CABS or a VAN at a price that was seemed almost 1/4 the cost of our rooms (£12.00). We were so angry; the clerk finally told us how to EASILY take the city bus for FREE to the airport at 4:30 AM.

We get to the rooms and found we got two doubles which was miserable for my wife who had a very difficult time sleeping with our wiggly daughter. We were at that point too upset and tired to change our rooms.

We feel Holiday Inn-Heathrow-Ariel had made it miserable for us because they failed to tell us of the unique, difficult and costly travel requirements from the hotel and airport and return, and giving us the wrong accommodations.

COMMENT: HELLO!! The Olympics are coming soon to England folks. Heathrow and the Hotels better get their act together, and soon!!

  • Liked — Clean rooms, good showers
  • Disliked — Misled, lack of information, wrong accomodation
  • Tips/Secrets — Understand that Heathrow hotels require extra £ and special directions to get there.

I am a priority club member. Had a disappointing stay during re-furbishment in June 2006. Returned in Aug 2006 to a new hotel. The restaraunt staff remembered us from the previous June. They were absolutley superb, especially the Polish girl who is a credit to the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of Avis & other car hire firms which is very handy and also a small supermarket just down the road.

There is no aircon in the room while London is under heatwave 35 degree.
I have to submit my laundry to the receptionist myself. Nobody to come and pickup.

This hotel is adequate for a quick stay - don't stay there for very long though!

My first room was smaller than my ensuite bathroom at home!! After some great customer service from the receptionist, we moved rooms to an executive room which was much better.

One thing to be VERY wary of is the security of the car park. When we drove in to the car park, we saw 3 empty spaces dotted around the car park that had window glass on the floor next to them. On our last night, we saw a car with no driver window and their sat nav equipment had been taken!!

So my advice to you would be to not leave any valuables of any kind in your car if you are parking in the car park!!!

We stayed here for one night before an early morning flight from terminal 1 at Heathrow and found it to be an excellent service. Service was quick and easy, we had a great advance rate too! Although we booked a smoking room, it was clean and larger than average. We didn't get any noise from the airport and therer were black-out curtains so had a great night's sleep. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and not too overpriced. One gripe is the hotel helpfully booked us a taxi, but this turned out to be an employee of the hotel I think who charged £12 to T1, when it cost us £7 on the return using an airport taxi. We left our car at the hotel for £10 a night, which was fine for the 4 nights we were away, but not recommended for any longer holidays!

Stayed here for one night on 11/4/06, after an exhausting set of flights from New Zealand.

First up, convenient to terminals 1,2 & 3 as the Heathrow Hoppa service runs from here to the hotel. Purchase tickets from hotel desk inside airport (return £5 each)and go to bus stop 8. From here the bus H6 will take you to holiday inn ariel.

Arrived on a wet and grey afternoon to find a warm and lively hotel. Check in staff pleasant and room good with expected facilities - tea/coffee, hairdryer, sky, etc.

Breakfast excellent - continental or cooked breakfasts available. Wide selection of food makes the price worthwhile.

Overall an excellent airport hotel. Will endeavour to stay here for all future overnights in Heathrow.
