visited 18.10.07 to 21.10.07 with a party of 23 theatricals for a reunion.
From the brochure we expected much , but discovered little.
The rooms were generally overcrowded and missing clothes storage facilities , such as wardrobes or drawers. "Super King Size beds" are two separate beds pushed together. Ensuite bathrooms are tiny and poorly equipped , only some have fibre optic lighting. Towels never changed , bins not emptied. Dirty , manual only extractor fan .Dirt under bed and wardrobe includes : Child's Book. Chocolate. Sweet Wrapper. Wine Cork.
Child's Toy. Screw Top.
Dust to skirtings , architraves , bed head and unit tops.
Trailing extension leads.
Room accessed externaly to dingy entrance corridor or , subject to availability , through the restaurant. A survey of fellow guests regarding bedroom suitability ranged from "Not too bad" to "Dreadful" "Dirty" "Crowded" Pathetic" and "Horrible"
No resident's lounge , the bar has seating for 13 , we were a party of 23 and there were other guests. Range of drinks limited and expensive.
The adjoining restaurant serves a basic breakfast but excels at dinner. We had booked in advance for our party to dine at 7.00 on Friday evening but were told at 5.45 that we would have to eat at 6.00 (No doubt to allow for a second sitting).
Basically , this is a One Star hotel with a Four Star restaurant.
Eat here , stay elsewhere.

I did not see the other reviews until the hotel was booked; I nearly cancelled.
We stayed in the deluxe room; it was a bit on the small side and somewhat cluttered but I have seen worse. The bedroom and bathroom were both very clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable.
We ate in the restaurant on the evening as well as taking breakfast. The evening meal was excellent quality and very good value for money. Breakfast was average.
The staff were all friendly and polite.
This is not the beat hotel I have ever stayed in but it is much better than some of the other reviews suggest. I would stay again if visiting Southport

We thought that this was a newly refurbished hotel and this was clearly not the case when we arrived! The room was small made smaller by the very large bed and cupboard in the corner which contained a small kitchen. There was a microwave, kitchen utensils and a hob. The bathroom looked like it was in a cupboard and it was difficult to flush the loo as the handle was under the wash basin. I didn't risk a shower as the cubicle looked very dirty. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise and the dining area looked good. We only stayed for one night and would never return. They seemed to have worked hard putting everything in the rooms rather than concentrating on cleanliness and quality!

Contrary to the previous reviews, I have nothing but praise for this hotel.

I booked with the hotel about 3 weeks prior to my stay. The reason for my trip was to attend my best friend's wedding and I had a fair bit of luggage to bring. Less than a week before my stay, I came across the hotel reviews on this site and was understandably concerned. I called the hotel and spoke to the Manager and expressed my concerns. Without hesitation or any asking on my part, the Manager upgraded me to a double room at no extra charge! He also seemed genuinely troubled by the bad reviews previous guests have given and took full responsibilty - I was SO impressed!

Unfortunately, the floods prevented me from getting to Southport and half way through my train journey, we had to turn around and come back to Cardiff as it was too dangerous to continue our journey. When I called the hotel to let them know I wouldn't be able to make it (literally 1 hour before I was due to check in), the Manager VERY kindly told me there would be no charge because of the circumstances.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough and am looking forward to coming to Southport and staying there. Please give The Alexandra & Victoria Hotel a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised!

The website described this hotel as a new, luxurious hotel with extensive leisure facilities, such as a jacuzzi and fully equipped gymnasium, offering unrivalled facilities in your room. We booked on-line and paid £80 for a one night stay in a double room. The hotel does not have on-site leisure facilities of any kind. The room was very small, not very clean (thick dust behind the bathroom washbasin, grubby soap dish, dusty skirting boards) and was far from well equipped. The bathroom was tiny - the shower cubicle door banged into the washbasin leaving a small gap to enter the shower. We were very disappointed with the room and the facilities. The attitude of the staff was reasonable and we were given a £20 refund when we informed them of our disappointment. We would not recommend.
