“Gone down the pan !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Stayed here weekend of 16/02/13. Most clients were pensioners . Many clients wore tracksuits. Forget hotel parking , few spaces available . Behind hotel is very rough but location is very good. Room ok but , like the rest of the hotel, in need of refurbishment. Took nearly an hour to check in.
Smokers congregate in the porch by the foyer which makes the whole area unpleasant. Because the breakfast was so poor on the Saturday morning we didn't bother on the Sunday. As we passed the dining room there was a long queue for tables. Stayed here 8 years ago and this hotel has certainly gone 'downhill' since then.

Stayed 16th Feb. Paid extra for early check in/late check out. No record of booking at reception! Wrong fee initially requested - check in delayed by receptionist taking phone calls. Room allocated not been cleaned. Eventually taken to another room by the CLEANER. Sleep disturbed by loud music & revellers until early hours. And I MEAN LOUD!The whole place is weary & grubby. NOT to be recommended. Spoilt our weekend!

Once you have got over the issue of finding somewhere to park, bearing in mind you will have t be up before 8am to feed the meter, you will find the building tired and garish, and the staff bored and uninterested. The corridor to our room was lined with dirty glasses and bottles, and there seemed to be bewildered guests hanging around everywhere waiting for something. Our deal included dinner, but having checked out the dining room, we abandoned the idea and ate instead at a superb Italian a few doors away. The room looked new or at least refurbished, and the bedding and bathroom were spotless, but very warm and situated underneath what seemed to be a huge pump, the noise of which broke my sleep occasionally. Breakfast was adequate, though staff seemed stressed and grubby. Overall it served its purpose, but would be unlikely to consider as an option again.

A recent stay found the hotel to be "cheap" but good for a budget stay in Southport. £71 for room,Valentine dinner, complimentary champagne and chocolates and breakfast. The room was 001 in a new...ish wing and very basic. The only very small window was at one end of the room and did nothing to light the room at all. You still need lights on even at 10:00am. The window looked out onto a dirty back section of the hotel and large pipe covered in pigeon crap!!! Whilst clean, it was very basic. There was a motor running somewhere close to the room which was annoying. I could sleep through it but I am sure some would not. We took a look at the restaurant and went next door to eat at Ask Italian which was excellent. The chocolates were okay but the champagne was an insult and was still unopened, in the ice bucket when we left. Breakfast was buffet style and whilst basic, it was not too bad. If you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay in Southport and you can get a good deal it is worth a stay but don't expect a lot.
