After driving up from Liverpool with no accommodation booked and having never been to Southport before, I did a search on my phone for hotels in the centre. I usually opt for Travelodge or Premier Inn when away on business as you know what you're gonna get with them. As Southport can boast neither, I opted for Best Western. I'm put off small privately owned hotels as the owners are usually psychopaths and have so many rules that your stay is rendered miserable. Anyhoo, when I arrived at 9.15pm I got parked easily and check in was quick. The hotel is an old affair, probably early 20th century and complete with squeaky floors. This started alarm bells ringing as I was afraid my room was gonna be below such squeaky boards. Much to my delight I was on the top floor and the room was airy and modern with a great shower.
I was only there to get my head down and had an uninterupted sleep and a hearty brekkie in the morning. Oh forgot to mention the terrible entertainment in the bar as I was checking in, some woman belting out musical numbers at the piano. The oldies seemed to love it though.
All in all, I'd definately recommend for cleanliness, room size, price (£45 for double room and breakfast). Not bad!

Although we enjoyed our stay I wouldn't recommend to families with young children unless they can sleep through a war zone. Primary business is functions and the 2 nights we stayed both nights had live bands for a party & wedding going on just past midnight. A night club in a street opposite gave us the 3am sunday wake up from a group of drunks who thought they could sing at the top of their voices! The3 facilities are good but restricted access to the pool due to swim lessons can be an inconvinience with 7.30pm close also on weekends. Staff are excellent but expect to wait a little for breakfast due to lack of them. Rooms are a bit dated but comfortable, tiny protable telly and leaky shower screen - don't expect luxury but OK for value.

Its a grand old Vicotorian hotel, my room looked like it was bit from the 70s, but it was large and clean. I could see a lot of painting was going on so maybe some room makeovers are taking place.

I liked the hotel and the staff were friendly, the big problem for me was noise. I stayed at the weekend and the hotel runs dinner dances - so loud music boomed out until 1am - after that we had the locals coming out of the nighcubs shouting along the street.

It's a shame really cause its a nice hotel and very friendly staff - might be ok during the week I guess..

The room was very basic, the bed was clean but like sleeping on a table. UnfortunatlyI lost an earing in the room spent several minutes crawling around on the floor to no avail. Couldn't help but notice the beds hadn't been moved for a decent hooving for a every long time! the furniture was very dated, scratched and had certainly seen better days. On the up side the bathroom was clean but again needed some paint

We had a meal in their restaurant which was very nice as was breakfast. Had to laugh when the waiter siad the owner had been in and told them off for not having candles on the tables, there were only two other table used while we were there
