Having read some “just average” reviews before my stay 17th July 2007 I have to step forward and say “I’m Barabbas” This hotel is a little Beauty.
I have stayed in over 2000 yes Two Thousand hotel rooms all over the world; even the Waldorf in NY NY and this little beauty takes some beating!
A very warm welcome awaits you from the new owners. It has recently been fully refurbished.
Very very clean rooms, that welcoming crisp clean bed. All new carpets, beds inc bedding. Furniture.
Flat screen TV (decent size) Digital Free View box. Plus lots of creature comforts.
Very quiet location and short stroll to the Town centre or sea front.
Hats off to the owners. I defiantly will stay again. Totally agree with the other reviewer, the “breakfast” is top class.

Stayed at the Hotel this weekend (14/15 July 2007). There are some older pictures and reviews to be found on the internet for this property. It has new owners and has been fully refurbished within the last 12 months. A friendly welcome awaited us and we were promptly shown to our rooms. The entire hotel has been tastefully refurbished in keeping with its Victorian past. It is clean and well presented throughout. The room itself was very clean and well equipped with everything I needed for my stay. As with the rest of the hotel it was tastefully decorated to fit in with the era of the hotel. All of the staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Breakfast is cooked to order and of a high standard, served in a very clean and comfortable dining room. The location of the hotel is convenient for visiting Southport, which is a pleasant 5 minute stroll away. I found the location to be quiet throughout the entire weekend. I would have no hesitation to stay here again if I am in the area.

I am surprised that others give this hotel a reasonable review. We stayed there in September 2005. We were never made to feel welcome and the service was poor or non existant. The rooms were cold, wet towels were put on beds, the breakfast was poorly served, a noisy party went on in the bar until the early hours on the first night and on the final night the hotel proprietor decided to close the bar without giving any notice. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed for a night at the end of August 2005. As B&B's go this is one of the better places I'd stayed in - nice communal areas, bar and breakfast room.
The bedroom was nicely done out with decent furniture and nice touches. Bathroom was basic but adequate.
My only gripe was that from start to finish we hardly came across a member of staff - and when we did it wasn't the warm friendly service the other reviews had suggested.
The girl who "greeted" me on arrival couldn't have looked less enthused and didn't even crack a smile. Same again when she served me breakfast -really miserable.
Similarly when we finally left there was no-one around to say goodbye. We just walked out.
Overall the place is really nice and I'd stay again but it's the little things on the service front that wont allow me to rave about it.

I wanted to surprise my Girlfriend with a special romantic weekend away in a quality Hotel and we have found our perfect romantic haven, I would recommend this hotel anyone wanting top class. The Victorian Luxury Room we had was really beautiful with all the extras I'd asked for. There was soft music playing as we turned the key in the door, Champagne waiting on ice, scented candles, chocolates & rose petals on a lavious bed, needless to say we had the night of our dreams. I cant thank the Hotel staff enough for the effort they made everyone was so friendly and laid back like nothing was any trouble. Breakfast was excellent with loads of choice. The Hotels location was great too for the shops and bars. I,ll most certainly be back. Many Thanks. Keith & Sarah Manchester
