“Superb Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Once again, have had a lovely lunch with a group of ladies at this friendly restaurant. The food was excellent, the service great. Everyone in our group of 15 was served at the same time, no waiting about for people to be presented with their meal.

I love coming to this restaurant. The puddings are to die for - especially the Creme Brulee.
Going again twice in January 2013. Keep up the high standards and value for money.

“Usually lovely restaurant let down by thoughtless cooking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012 via mobile

As a treat for my fiances birthday we booked a table at the Forge. Having visited before I was confident the meal would be lovely for a celebration evening.

When we arrived our table wasn't ready, so we were shown a wine list at the bar and the older waiter wandered off. Didn't ask us what we wanted, just let us see what was on offer! Shortly after we were seated by the younger waiter, who from previous experience, is a delight to be served by. Orders were taken quickly and our starters arrived promptly. Moules mariniere for me and potted shrimps for him. Mine was a huge bowl of delicious moules. His was a tiny ramekin a 3rd full of shrimp in half melted cheap butter. Just not impressive and so simple to get right. Not ones to worry we anticipated our mains. Being a special occasion the £25 surf and turf was ordered. The first half lobster was so dry and over cooked the claw was actually crisp at the top and it was impossible to get the meat out of the shell cleanly. Considering the cost and wanting a nice meal, we politely complained to the young waiter who acted amazingly professionally and the plate was removed and returned very quickly with a new half lobster. Unfortunately this lobster, whilst not dry was actually ice cold in the centre. At this point we gave up and asked for the food to be removed. Again the waiter was apologetic and a free desert and brandy offered. But by that point our special evening was pretty ruined. Whilst the customer service did its best to rectify an unpleasant situation and we didn't pay for the steak. Sending food out in that state is a disgrace. Needless to say we won't be back and this years birthday night out without pleasant memories.

“Mostly a pleasant Evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

My wife and I dined here recently. Once we had got past the barman on arrival who managed to serve us without a hint of a smile or even speaking one word to us we had quite a good evening.

The restaurant has a great atmosphere in a barn-like environment. The menu was very extensive especially the unusual choices of fish available. They also have a good stock of wine albeit somewhat overpriced.

We both had Moules mariniere as a starter. It was a huge plateful and the sauce was superb. My wife had a chicken dish which she thoroughly enjoyed. I was left a little disappointed at the T-bone steak which was ordered medium-rare and turned up just over medium. The reason for this, in my opinion , was that the steak was too thin too cook medium-rare.

We shared a selection of cheeses instead of a sweet which was excellent.

Service was good the barman apart and the meal including 2 bottles of wine came to £97.
