“What a friendly Hotel”

Imperial Hotel

Having read the reviews on line we went to the hotel with mixed feelings but needed a short break and thought we would give it a try. i arrived at the hotel about 1pm to be greeted by the hotel receptionist (lovely young girl with a greek name which i forgot) and was advised that check in was at 3pm. i asked where the nearest car park was and was sent along the seafront to a church car park. which was only about 5 mins walk away from the hotel. i asked if we could leave our luggage until we were able to check in and were told we could leave it in the luggage room. we strolled around town to get our bearings and returned to the hotel about 2:40pm. The General Manager was on the desk when we arrived back at the hotel so we thought we would be cheeky and ask if we were to still to early to collect our keys. Expecting to be told "NO 3pm" he pleasant suprised us and said that the room was ready and we could check in when ever we were ready. which was a nice start to a lovely break and completely different to the other visitors review i read. Maybe it was their approach to the staff on thier arrival.
The food at the hotel was good for the price which we paid and although we are not heavy drinkers the all inclusive aspect was nice. The Cabaret artiste for what ever reason failed to turn up and the Manager stepped in at short notice. Thank goodness he did. A very pleasant evening and his choice of songs were just right for the age group present. maybe the other reviewers didn't like songs from the musicals but we along with 90% of the other guests stopping at the hotel enjoyed his vocal selections. the hotel in areas does need a bit of money spend on them but the the hotel was nice and clean and every member of staff that we talked to was very polite and curtious. We will certainly be going there again in the summer when the weather is a little better and will be booking direct with the hotel next time.

I stayed at the imperial/shearings hotel from the 6th -8th July 2007 and was lucky enough to go on the nicest weekend in the past 2 months (no rain). The room we had was on the 2nd floor over looking the patio area and beach.Lying in bed we had the most wonderful views out to sea and over caldey island' which has to be one of my most favourite views in the world. The hotel is old with worn carpets and furniture in the main common areas but our room was very large and clean ( what more could you ask for) and was quite well maintained.Don't attempt the lift unless you have to because I know it sticks and is often not working,This hotel is not very the less mobile because it is full of steps even down to the restaurant.
The hotel caters for the older clientel and being in my 30's i was the youngest there but it didn't matter that much. The food was OK but very basic, The evening meal was not very generous at all and there are no snacks available in the evening so keep something in your room just in case you get hungry. The staff were all eastern european and were very friendly and provided efficient service.
One thing I will say about the hotel is don't arrive early because they will not let you check in until 3pm no matter what. I arrived at 2.45pm but I only wanted to drop off my bags and ask directions to the car park but the girl behind reception just stood there walking back and for and did not acknowledge me at all not even a smile or eye contact. After 7 mins of standing at the reception desk I asked her if they were open and she just said very rudely check in is 3pm; I said I know that I just want directions to the car park and if you had bothered to acknowledge me or welcomed me I would have told you that.
The entertain, ent was absolute rubbish especially the man on the saturday night who is obviously a regular at the hotel becasuethe people who were staying for the week were all complaining and goading him. The manager of the hotel also fancies himself as a star of broadway and insisted on making us listen to him singing songs from the shows in between his name dropping and bragging about himself he actually thought he was brilliant ; how wrong he was. Not many people stayed in for the entertainment and now I know why.

We spent a long weekend with our parents at this Shearings Hotel, we stayed at this hotel because it offered budget accomodation with breakfast, dinner and entertainment which we thought our parents would like.

The Hotel appears to market itself at the elderly market but is quite old with a maze of stairs and a rather slow, small lift which is not ideal for senior citizens -althought ours seemed to cope well with few moans!
Breakfast was excellent, dinner pretty average, entertainment was o.k.

pros. Good overall value, fantastic views, friendly & helpful staff
cons. bit tired, limited parking

Eating in Tenby, try Plantagenet & Reef restaurants.

My husband and I have just returned from a very enjoyable weeks holiday with WA Shearings staying at this very nice hotel. We had requested a high floor sea-view room, which we got, but didn't realise the rooms on the lower floors were much larger, so bear this in mind. It is definetly worth paying extra for the sea-view. We also had a dramatic view of the waves crashing against the cliff-side(which the hotel is built into)from our table in the restaurant.
As always with WA Shearings the meals were very nice and the service in this hotel was excellent, with all the staff very friendly. The hotel is ideally situated in close proximity to the shops and the beach, accessible by steps and sloping pathways.
Entertainment is geared to the more mature guests, with bingo, quizzes, singers etc...and I have to mention the comedian/singer we saw one evening during our stay, Spencer Marshall. He was absolutely brilliant and had everyone in stitches.
All in all a very enjoyable week.
