Welcoming, attentive staff, clean towels and bedding, otherwise didn't want to touch anything because of ingrained dirt and grime. We occupied room 4 and the peeling paint photographed by a reviewer last October was still there - only more of it. We had French doors onto the large public terrasse directly over the beach. The bathroom light-pull was black, the mended chip in the sink had a brown edge. The kettle had ingrained dirt on the lead. One of the two mugs had a cracked handle, the other had two brown irremovable marks in the bottom. Both were changed without problem, but should not have been there in the first place. Carpets had no pile, more like felt and essentially clean except for a border all around of 3/4inch of dirt. The pillows felt as if stuffed with cardboard, the mattress had a hard edge, like a 'ring of steel'. We slept surprisingly well (probably alcohol fuelled)The corner in the bathroom by the sink and area behind loo looked as if they'd never been cleaned. I am mobility impaired and had requested a walk-in shower, or a bath with grab handles to assist getting in and out. There was one vertical handle on the wall alongside the bath. I am of average height, but could not reach the handle from outside the bath, so had to make do with stripwash.Throughout the public areas paint finish which should have been white had dirty marks, one handrail so bad that it looked black.
Food was better on the Saturday night than on the Friday, but still insipid, more 'greasy spoon' quality than a la carte. Breakfast was good. Service was good, a little slow because of the volume of diners, could have done with more staff. Gluten-free diet no problem, staff well educated in what was suitable - maybe because one of the reception staff has coeliac disease.
All-in-all a big pity, the setting is outstanding and this tired hotel could easily be a five star experience rather than the low budget option it currently presents for mid-budget prices.
We shall not be staying in a Shearings establishment again.

Room Tip: £20/nt for sea view+ xtra for superior rm

Thanks you so much for taking the time to write a detailed review which contains many positives as well as negatives and I have looked through these with my management team who have addressed the relevant issues. We are an extremely popular hotel appreciated by young and old and we do our best to cater for a wide range of customer needs, from specific dietary requirements which you mentioned to limited mobility requirements. This isn’t as you stated for the benefit of one of our staff but is general practice across the Coast and Country Hotel chain which prides itself in offering excellent comfort and relaxing surroundings whilst remaining great value for money. Our popularity is testament to how satisfied our guests are and as you can see from the most recent review dated 27 May where the customer rates the hotel 5 star all round, overall we have an extremely high guest satisfaction level. We do however strive for excellence and are constantly improving the standard of the rooms and the quality of our service so we will ensure the areas for improvement which you have mentioned will be addressed. Please don’t let one experience deter you from visiting us again.

PS-The room tip is you provided is incorrect as a sea view room is only £5.50 per person extra per night
Thanks

the imperial hotel tenby has the best views over the sea to caldy island and S Catherines Mount. When you open the curtains in the morning and see the sea it takes my breathe away. We have been going there for over five years and it still feels like the first time. I have to say Peter the hotel manager is the most likeable person you will ever meet nothing is ever to much trouble, the staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean and modern now its been refurbished. The location is superb for walking into the town it only takes two minutes, can not fault it at all. Its well worth trying if you havent done so already.

I have just returned from a 5 day break having stayed at the Imperial Hotel at Tenby with my mother in April.
I upgraded the room to a sea view which was excellent as the room was large with 3 single beds in, a bay window with access to a balconey where you could walk on to a patio/dinning area, and all with superb views ovelooking the beach.
The only suggestion i would make the bathroom did need a coat of paint on the ceiling and the tiles needed grouting but other than that i couldn't complain.
The staff could not do enough for you, the food was excellent and the service was second to none.
I would highly recommend this hotel and with recently having had a facelift the dinning room and lounge areas were lovely and spacious.
Eating your meals overlooking the beach was an added bonus.
I would highly recommend this hotel, a superb holiday.

Room Tip: Room 2 - great room sea view and balconey

Dear Annette, I am pleased you and your mum enjoyed your stay with us at the Imperial and also took the time to write your views, Our sea view rooms are excellent value for money and do have superb views overlooking Caldey Island & St Catherines Island.
We have a fantastic restaurant with superb views which is why we move guests around each evening to try and ensure that as many guests get to sit and enjoy their meal whilst admiring the view.
The staff at the hotel pride themselves on offering excellent customer service and I am pleased that you witnessed this during your stay. The recent facelift has certainly updated the lounge areas and with the superb views is an ideal location for that special occasion.
Room 2 along with several others are very popular rooms and often requested on a regular basis.

We stayed for a long weekend. We read reviews on the hotel and decided to upgraded to a superior room which was very nice and spacious with a good size modern bathroom. We did have a bit of trouble with the plumbing and noise of running water but was promptly moved to a suite with a lovely sea view. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The hotel is well sitauated with esy access into the town and the beach. The breakfast and snacks were very good. We met a lovely couple and the guests were friendly.
We love Tenby and will return to the hotel.

An exceptional stay with weather better than the Med which made this short break. Hotel situated on cliff top with wonderful views out to sea and Caldey Island - as we paid extra for a sea view we enjoyed this fully. We had a standard room (no. 48) which was generally ok and what you would expect - minus was the shower that only dribbled water and tatty/broken bedside lampshade- plus was the good quality thick towels.
The Dining Room has recently been upgraded and looks very good in brochure and when visiting. Problem is that they do not have enough sofa's and chairs for people to use once they have eaten and wish to listen to the "entertainer" each evening - if you had eaten at 7.30 (last sitting !) you were left with nowhere to sit until waiting staff had cleared a dining table that you could sit at. Entertainers are situated in corner of room and really need a raised platform to sing from - instead it felt like they were being put in "the naughty corner"! They had all been told to "tone down" their acts .......... why? Although the majority of guests were senior citizens they were not in their dotage and bath chairs and wanted entertaining and perhaps somewhere to dance - a few brave souls eventually did dance on the carpet!!!
Dining room staff were very polite but with no experience and no one (restaurant manager?) to guide them. Once the entertainer started each evening the dining room staff continued relaying up for breakfast rattling cup/saucers/plates and throwing cutlery into containers which spoilt the whole evening - even a complaint regarding this made to Reception at the time made no difference.
Food was ok but certainly not good and quality far below what I have eaten at other Shearings hotels. Perhaps someone could teach the chef how to cook vegetables???
Overall this could be a wonderful gem in Tenby if only someone would take charge and monitor staff/rooms/food etc. Would love to come back but only if this hotel is "managed"!

I travelled here with my Mother. I upgraded to a Premier Room and there are two Rooms with a balcony, which are fantastic and without these we probably would have checked out. In fact a couple were spending their 25th Wedding Anniversary and had a Premier Room but it was too much for them and they checked out early. The main gripe surrounds the dining room, which on face value is very attractive but it is absolutely chaotic. Breakfast, there are obviously peak times of 0830-0900 it is very busy and they just do not have the staff to cope. There are a couple of Hungarian waiters, whilst being very nice have no idea. there is nobody clearing in the tables, people are queuing and being asked to sit down, then only to find that people walk straight into the restaurant and seat themselves, leaving you further down the queue which is not managed. There is no organisation, waiters will either not come by your table to take your order, or will ask you three times. There was one very efficient lady, but it was all too bad, running out of dishes, glasses, fruit juice and that was breakfast. Dinner was the same, the quality of the food very poor, same issues surrounding organisation. I am not an enormous eater, but if I was here with my Husband, I am sure we would have been nipping for local Fish and Chips. My first night I opted for a Nicoise salad and Sweet and Sour Pork. What I received was, 2 dessert spoons of lettuce mixed with a teaspoon of tuna, olives and no egg. Sweet and Sour Pork, arrived on a bed of overcooked noodles, which were very gloopy, the smallest pieces of pork I have ever seen, two boiled potatoes on the same bowl, a side dish of sprouts, braised red cabbage and small roasted potatoe cubes, obviously not enough carbohydrates!! The mix of the hotel guests tend to predominantly senior citizens or 50+, but even our revered senior citizens deserve greater portions than this. The hotel operates an all inclusive from 1930-2230, it is run strictly to the letter and the gentleman that served us is clearly in the wrong job, as it is clear that he is serving you under sufferance, no smile. A drinks machine would have given me more of an experience.
I am writing this in the hope that the Hotel will listen and take onboard these comments as they really do have a "Jewel" here in it's location. I definitely would not opt for the AI basis and B & B would be a preferred option if this hotel is a must for you.
Come on Coast and Country - Get your act together!
