very serene atmosphere, great rooms, great food, great staff . Decor managed to be in keeping with such an old historic building with many features still the same. love the doors that curve up at the top.The hotel has undergone a very tasteful revamp recently which is done so naturally it fits the hotel beautifully.

I had Room 1 in the attic and it was gorgeous, very romantic with white wooden beams and a view to the sea. The bathroom is across a little landing and has no lock, which some people might find a bit hard work, but I loved it as it gave a little separate space to have a bath (there was also good water pressure). Definitely not one for people with difficulties climbing stairs but well worth the climb if you are able and want a cosy nook.

Downstairs, the hotel is very elegant and comfortable. It feels like a modern version of a house from a Jane Austen novel. The staff were all really friendly and nice. I recommend having a drink by the roaring fire in the sitting room in the evening, and taking your morning coffee outside on the terrace. The garden is lovely with old ruins in it. It's a fairly easy walk to Tenby along the beach, maybe half an hour or so.

Small problems: no wifi in our room; this didn't bother us too much as we were on a romantic trip and it was good not to be glued to our phones. We could have used some information given to us about when breakfast was but it was easy to find someone to ask. The restaurant needs work: the room is too echoey and you feel like your voice can be heard by everyone. Plus while generous and quite nice, I felt the food was a bit expensive for somewhat average fare (I had the steak and chips). If the dining room was less silent and felt as luxurious as the sitting room, I would have enjoyed my meal a lot more and not really minded the money.

Overall, a really special place that is still working out some small issues from a recent refurb and new owners, I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a view of the sea but no wifi

Room 12 is an upper floor spacious loft conversion with a partial sea view. It is accessed via a checker plate gantry, which I imagine could be a bit tricky on wet or icy days, but as it happened we had some great weather so not really a problem. The bed is massive and very comfortable, The shower and bath are fantastic. Everything is high quality. A small fridge is one thing it lacked though. The staff were friendly and any little niggles we had were quickly sorted. The food was really beautifully cooked and presented. Location is quiet, but with Tenby a half hour stroll along the beach you have the best of both worlds. Our hosts were very good at suggesting things to do ect.. In short we really enjoyed our stay there

I took my father and stepmother here for a weekend to celebrate his birthday as he lives less than an hour away and I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. I live in London but the evening dinner was better than any high end restaurant there. The drawing room was beautiful and the whole place oozed style. Wonderful. The owners and staff are incredibly attentive, friendly, and perfect hosts . You have to go here !

Room Tip: Room 5 has fabulous views, huge windows

Beautiful hotel! We stayed in room 1 at the top of the house - it was lovely and comfortable with a fantastic view of the beach. The food was amazing and the service from Kimberly in the restaurant was brilliant. Would thoroughly recommend visiting to stay or for a meal!

I did a lot of research about visiting West Wales and came across this hotel. First of all I looked at the terrible reviews which all related to last summer and found a trend from members that a new couple had taken the place over which is what it really needed. I must say this is going to be one of the top spots to stay in West Wales over the next couple of years, the quality of the rooms and décor was of a high standard, although they have one or two things still to do the experience was delightful. I can confirm it is a place I would revisit. The food was of a high standard and the selection of wines appealing. We were blessed with wonderful weather a clear sky for the solar eclipse whilst Tenby is a short distance away the walk along the beach to the town centre was a relaxing Saturday morning stroll. Thank you Lucas and Melanie for making us most welcome I know you have a success business there.

Room Tip: Why not book a room with a sea view you will regret it otherwise!

We visited Penally Abbey today with family and friends for lunch. We recieved a very warm welcome from Mel and Lucas who should be very proud of what they achieved by lovingly restoring this beautifull hotel. The setting is perfect with stunning views across the Bristol Channel. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the relaxed dining room. The Chef is top class and I doubt if you will be disappointed. We finished off with coffee in the relaxed lounge. We will be back soon to sample the dinner menu. Thanks Mel and Lucas and good luck with your exciting venture.

Penally Abbey is a small Country House Hotel and Restaurant situated in an elevated position, adjacent to the the 12th Century church in the pretty floral village of Penally.Penally, is only 1.5mls from the beautiful medieval walled town of Tenby with its cobbled streets, ancient ramparts, picturesque harbour, and long sandy beaches in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park. The 'Abbey' is pretty rather than grand. The rooms are beautifully proportioned and sympathetically decorated and furnished to compliment the style of the building. Unusual features are the large ogee head doors and windows through which one can see views of Tenby Golf Course, Caldey Island and across the bay toward the Gower peninsular. We serve unpretentious food in beautiful surroundings. Our staff are friendly but not too intrusive. Our rooms are warm, clean and comfortable. We are only 800yds from Tenby's South Beach. But most importantly we offer the warmest welcome in Wales. ... more   less
