Stumbled on this place on the internet and stayed there for a couple of days over the August bank holiday. We weren't sure what to expect but we absolutely loved it.

It all felt a little bit old-fashioned and if you're looking for a slick, modern hotel this place is definitely not for you, but if you want a quiet place to get away from it all, it's perfect. The room was lovely and comfortable, the gardens were beautiful with lovely views, the food was excellent, and the staff made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.

It's about 10 minutes' walk to the beach across a golf course (the route is not obvious so ask before you leave the hotel!), and it's a little way out of Tenby so even on August Bank Holiday weekend the beach wasn't crowded.

Highly recommended.

We booked the Penally Abbey as a last minute break between Christmas and the New Year. A business trip planned for later in January was brought forward and combined with a two night stay at the Abbey. Choosing a hotel and location is always a bit of a chance thing but on arrival at the village of Penally we knew immediately that this was a good choice.

We booked directly with the hotel on a ‘dinner bed and breakfast’ basis the day before travelling. On arrival, we were upgraded to a superb room with a 180 deg uninterrupted view of the golf course, sea and the Tenby headland. The room was like a small apartment with a tastefully furnished sitting area and a magnificent four poster bed. We felt immediately at home and totally relaxed.

Dinner was excellent on both evenings and breakfasts were of similar quality.

The whole experience was one of total relaxation with attentive but not overpowering service. We were lucky on both evenings to have the guests lounge to ourselves immediately after dinner and enjoyed coffee and the remains of a bottle of wine in what could have been our own personal country home, warmed by a crackling log fire. The bedroom lounge area was equally relaxing and was a comfortable area to spend time in the late afternoon / early evening before going down to dinner.

A chance visit to this beautiful part of Wales has firmly established the Penally Abbey as one of our ‘must return’ destinations.

we rang the Abbey at 11 am and booked it then stepped into the beautiful room at 2pm......... real spur of the moment stuff, was a beautiful day and we wanted 2 b near the beach.

We were greeted like old friends even tho we had never been b4, were shown around the Abbey taken 2 our room and drank a complimentary sherry!!!!! The room was old, quaint but beautifully presented including the 7ft bed!!

Breakfast was amazing but rushed as we had 2 head off unexpectedly. One thing about this place......... enjoy the grounds, enjoy the sound of shingle under your shoes, enjoy the ambience and everything else Penally has 2 offer....enjoy....we did.

From arrival we were looked after superbly by staff and owners.
Excellent sea veiw rooms with delicious cuisine.
