We last stayed here just under a year ago, and found it very good in general. This time we arrived on Sunday, some 2 hours earlier than normal book in time, but fortunately were able to register and found that our room was ready. It was described as having superb views of the sea, and had to admit that from the 3rd (top) floor the view of the North Beach and Tenby harbour was spectacular by day and night. Although everything in general at the hotel is OK, we felt that on this occasion the staff were being somewhat stretched. The Garden Bar, in the basement, which is usually open in the Summer, was not open on Sunday evening. When we went to ask the receptionist about this, there was no receptionist. We wandered further through the hotel and found to our dimay that both the barman and the receptionist were assisting serving dinner in the restaurant. There was another bar, situated in a very dated function room with all the accoutrements of a 1960s dance hall. The poor barman had to juggle his time between here and the restaurant a floor below. In fact, our overall impression of the Park Hotel was that it is now becoming very tired looking, overly ornate and frilly, both in the public area and the rooms, and is getting to the stage where some serious refurbishment is needed. After having just stayed in another hotel at £45 per room per night less expensive, but way superior in all respects, my wife and I now feel that the Park is overpriced. The staff, many of whom are foreign were, as ever obliging cheerful and good at their jobs, but I can see them getting pretty fed up with being so stretched in their duties in this way.
