“Ilfracombe Blues Festival”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We returned on Monday after a great weekend.Geno Washington was our Highlight together with Climax Blues Band. We enjoy dancing so the Rock bands were definately not our taste. In all it was great value for money. The accomodation was very good and centally placed near the Entertainment. It was very well equiped and was very comfortable.
We had a meal in Raha's Tandoori Mahal. The Chef Owner cooked me a special meal as I am diabetic. Nothing was too much trouble. I cannot praise him enough.
We hope John Fowler has a similar weekend next year.

This festival, the first in Ilfracombe, was hosted by John Fowler's Ilfracombe site in Marlborough Road. It was well attended and the musicians/bands were excellent. The whole 3 day weekend was well organised and all the music lovers I spoke to were delighted with the venue and the John Fowler staff, to include the security people , were all happy and helpful all weekend even through the very long hours they worked. Lets hope that the event goes ahead next year and the promoters make it an annual festival.

Think title should say it all tbh.
Stayed in top notch apartment - as according to website. Think grimy and you'd be right!

We had two apartments - neither sofa would you dare to sit on. Big discrepancy in what the two apartments were equipped with. The main rooms carpets were not nice!

Instead of feeling like we were staying in a good grade apartment it felt like a cheap seaside B and B! Complete with flea bites in one apartment.

Bedrooms were more acceptable though not sufficient linen for the number of beds in each apartment. Also shame there are no hooks to hang any coats on and towels etc.

The entertainment side was exactly what we'd paid for. Pool was sufficient. Golf area sufficed but could do with being a tad more exciting for children. Play area way too small and would imagine those with apartments near it weren't impressed with the noise. Food is ok - think fried everything - not something you'd want to eat nightly. But there's an ok Indian restaurant across road.

Would have been difficult to navigate and get about as a mother with baby if not with others due to all of the stairs EVERYWHERE with no real way of getting anywhere without traipsing up/down at least two flights of stairs.

Parking is also a nightmare with not enough close to the apartments themselves so end up parking much further away near chalets which is not great on returning from a day out with children and associated paraphernalia that needs to be taken back to apartment.

Wooden walk ways mean some people really suffered badly with noise from above.

A real shame as we've stayed in caravan sites of John fowler and had very positive experiences. If this had been our first break we would never go to their caravan parks.

As the flagship it's more titanic and sinking fast even though apartments have supposedly just been renovated.

Honestly you'd be better off going to a travelodge or similar than here!

Hello Marie

I am very sorry that the accommodation provided during your recent stay with us did not meet your expectations. This is a very popular holiday park and the apartments are in constant use. We have an on-going programme of refurbishment where all units are constantly monitored to ensure that we maintain the standards expected by our clients.

Nevertheless, I feel we should look into the circumstances of your holiday and see what we can do to help. To that end I will be contacting you through the Tripadvisor messaging service to discover the full details of your booking.

Great week end, fantastic bands, the accommodation was first rate and staff very friendly and helpful. All bands were really good and very encouraging that there is a lot of young talent that can play good music. We definitely will be back next year.

My husband and I have just spent a weekend at this site,we only stayed here because we were on a blues festival weekend which was held on the site. The festival itself was brilliant with some great bands and well organised. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful, and they opened the restaurant for the weekend from morning till night. The food was reasonably priced with a fairly varied menu ,the portions were huge and it was well cooked, so well done to the chef.We were given a gold chalet which faced the car park. The chalet itself is very small with 2 bedrooms and living come kitchen. The sofa was very low I think it turned into a bed and was very worn and old and not very comfortable. The tv was a good size but we couldn't get channels 1,2,3 they kept cutting out.The kitchen was clean with clean crockery and a dish washer and microwave which we didn't use.The bed was very hard and uncomfortable you could feel the springs on the mattress. The carpets were clean but looked out dated and worn. The room was very cold when we arrived but once we put the heating on it soon warmed up.The heating is 2 hot air radiators which are on a sensor so go off if no one is in the room. The shower was clean and the water got very hot.All in all for what we paid we couldn't really complain, but it was out of season so they had plenty of time to clean up.I am not sure it would be this good at peak season. The park itself is a long walk from Ilfacombe town and sea front via a really steep hill. This place is not ideal if you don't want to use a car.Ilfracombe
has not got a beach and the town looks a bit run down, plenty of cafes.

Room Tip: We had a downstairs chalet we did hear people above us quite a bit moving around etc.

Hello Val

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fair and honest review. We are pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and how helpful and friendly the staff were.

Once again our catering team has been singled out for extra praise and there is no doubt that they deserve it. They have done a brilliant job this year and worked extremely hard to serve the best food possible.

Your constructive criticism is being passed on to the park manager so that improvements may be made in the interest of future guests.

We really hope to see you again in the near future.

What a lovely review! Thank you, we really appreciate it.

Your 5 star praise will mean so much to the festival organiser, Giles Robson and his team at the park. They all worked extremely hard to make it the roaring success that it was.

We look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

We had a fantastic time, the music was brilliant with Geno Washington and the Climax blues band being the highlight of the weekend. All the music was of high quality. Other bands we enjoyed were the Mark Pontin Group and Albany Down. Our accommodation was first class, spotlessly clean, warm and well equiped. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The bar staff were very attentive and we never waited long to get served with a drink. We will definitley be returning next year. Congratulations to John Fowler holidays and Solid entertainments for putting on a great weekend.

What a lovely review! Thank you, we really appreciate it.

We were very fortunate that we were able to attract such an amazing line-up of artists for our first Blues Festival. With this roaring success behind us we can look forward to better things to come next time.

We trust that you will be there to enjoy it.
