“Vintage design in residential area of Ilfracombe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

We had a great room,. with a king size bed, a lounge chair, a double ended bath. Luckily the house is not in the center of the town, but in a quiet area in a beautiful house. The drive way is a bit steep but when you don't want to drive it: just leave your car on the street, there is plenty of free parking space there. The decoration is very well done using vintage design. The hostess is very friendly and gave us good tips on places to eat.

We were booked into the Westwood when the ceiling in our bathroom at the Elmfield fell through and I didn't believe that a B&B could match up to a boutique hotel. How wrong i was! The Westwood is a gem, Beautifully decorated, with amazing art and carefully chosen furniture. We had a Corbusier chaise and a Barcelona chair in our room, from which we could overlook the whole town through a massive bay window. The bed was a dream, it felt like we were floating off to sleep and the bathroom was enormous, topped off with a roll-top bath. Helen kindly booked La Gendarmerie which was an easy 15 minute walk away and very lovely food. The next morning we still demolished a lovely breakfast as we watched horizontal rain and gale force 7 winds zip past the windows. We had been booked on the MS Oldenburg to Lundy, but became evacuees for the second time this weekend. Helen came to the rescue once again, lending us her lovely labs, Oswald and Charlie to walk on the cliff tops. We're definitely looking forward to coming back again soon.

Room Tip: Room one is a wonderful size with amazing views

Staying here is a truly delightful experience. Helen’s friendly welcome (and pot of tea!) makes you feel at home straight away.

The rooms have a unique contemporary elegance and every effort is made to make them as comfortable as possible. The real difference is in the small details, whether it’s the L’Occitane toiletries, cafetiere coffee or DVD player in the rooms.

The delicious cooked-to-order breakfasts, served in the stylish dining room, will set you up perfectly for the day. And the Westwood is perfectly located for whatever you want to do in and around Ilfracombe. An added bonus is the easy access to the coastal path behind the guest house: within a matter of minutes you’ll discover glorious sea views.

What makes the Westwood so special is Helen’s wonderful hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble and she happily recommends things to do that I’m sure you won’t find in the guidebooks.

I tried to think of something negative to say about our stay. The only thing I could come up with was that we didn’t stay an extra day. Definitely worth a return visit.

Room Tip: Look on the website and take your pick!

I booked a night away as a surprise for my boyfriend. Helen was absolutely great -she was welcoming yet discrete, allowing us to have time to ourselves but always available to make suggestions. She has thought of everything -and it shows. The fluffy white towels and white robes made this B&B feel like a cosy luxury hotel: the best of all worlds! We stayed in Room One as it had been recommended and it did not disappoint. We will be back! Many thanks Helen!

We had a most enjoyable stay at the Westwood. We had the largest room in the bed and breakfast which was exceptional and tastefully decorated with some lovely pieces of furniture. Luxuriously comfortable with great views over Ilfracombe and we didn't want to leave! Helen made us very welcome and served a great breakfast.

We stayed here to celebrate my wife's birthday. Even before we arrived we knew we had made the right choice - Helen was very helpful in recommending a nearby Spa and making a restaurant booking for the night of our arrival. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted, when we got to the master bedroom (Room 1) it was absolutely massive (the pictures don't do it justice).

The hotel itself is ideally located on the West side of Ilfracombe - 5 minutes walk from costal paths with stunning views but still within a 10 minute stroll to the town centre and some excellent restaurants (highly recommend La Gendarmerie).

Breakfast was quite flexible, served up until 9:30am on weekends, with around 6 hot choices (including vegetarian options) in addition to cereal and fresh fruit. We found them to be very tasty.

Overall excellent all round, would definately recommend.
