“Disappointed......”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

We had a 4 day break at the Arlington, based in no small part to the review by others. Lets start with the good points..we had a sea view room....and the view was well worth the extra costs. The location is very central, although I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with back or leg problems, the incline was a killer. And finally, the staff were very friendly and there is a quaint old lift (and I mean old) with a mind of its own. The bad points...the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on, the breakfast was awful and the TV was worse than useless. I won't be making a return visit.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view room

The Arlington hotel on first inspection needs updating but was very clean and the staff very friendly. We were on the 4th floor so the lift was a boon for us on the other side of 60. The tea and coffee facilities in the room were second to none. The sea view was magnificent and with the view we had I could even forgive the woodchip wallpaper. To anyone who is thinking of a good inexpensive hotel in Ilfracombe look no further you've found it. Now book it.

Could do with a few upgrades in areas.

But overall a very pleasant and nice B&B location is spot on over looking the seafront and few minute to high street by walking so turn up park in the large car park and not worry about having to drive anywhere all weekend staff are more than welcoming and friendly

by far best place to find food is down near the harbor with the smuggler offering a wonderful night dining and juiles cafe offering a wonderful brunch

Yes, it could do with an upgrade, but it has a wonderful location, so that you can keep your car in the large parking area, and walk everywhere. The cost was excellent, £48 for a double room (£40 if you can do without the sea view) in October. Great three night stay with very friendly man in charge, very clean and tidy. Didn't take the breakfast, but instead found Adele's Cafe down the road. Would recommend, but only if you don't mind it being a little less than top-notch.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a sea view

We had four great nights and days in Ilfracome and really enjoyed the Arlington, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, Their full english breakfast is to die for, keeps you going all day Our room over looking the bay was nice and warm, clean and very relaxing, also a great big bathroom with as much hot water as you need and fresh clean towels every day, It is very close to the front and also the town centre, The harbour area is the best part of town in the evening with many bars and restaurants to chose from.

I can't argue that this hotel is in a great location, and that it 'could' be a really good hotel - but it would need a huge investment to bring it up to scratch, as it falls well short of what you'd expect from even the most basic B&B. It looks as though it's not had anything done to it for 40 years or more. In fact a bit like Ilfracombe itself, both have great potential but need a lot of tidying up.
It's probably the fault of all of us that go abroad for our major holidays then expect the same standard when we go for a 2 day break out of season at the British seaside. They just can't make enough money to keep the standard up. Sad really!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a sea view room, otherwise you're wasting you're money!

If you are looking for a good value bed and breakfast with great views over the sea and a good central location this is the hotel for you. If you are looking for luxury and frills don’t bother. But with a little bit of TLC this hotel could rival any in the area. (The outside could do with a good paint, and the interior could do with a bit of a freshen up) As it was a birthday treat for my sister, myself and our partners I paid the extra for the sea view which was well worth it.

My sister has mobility issues so it was great that their room was just by the lift. Had a bit of an issue with my room as I think it used to be a double room that had been turned to a triple. I had a bit of trouble getting in, out and sitting up in bed without hitting my head on the wall light which had obviously been placed in the right position when it was a double room. I sort of had to do a head limbo so a) I didn’t hit my head and b) I didn’t break the light.

There was a variety of options for breakfast with most things cooked to order not a help yourself but there was the addition of cereals and fruit juice.

Room Tip: If its not included in the price its worth the extra for the view.
