“Good Thyme”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014

If you are looking to eat out in Ilfracombe and don't like chips you could be in trouble, decent looking restaurants are few and far between with places either being closed during the week, or closed with it being 'out of season', however, as has been said on previous reviews, a gem exists - Take Thyme. Fresh fish is the order of the day on a menu with around 6 starters and 6 mains with a number of specials. The food was fresh, well seasoned and full of flavour, service was friendly and efficient. We had starter, main and a bottle of wine and the bill came to around £55 - good value for the quality of the food. Fortunately we managed to get a table, but as its quite a small restaurant, booking is recommended.

“Top class seafood restaurant combined with warm friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014 via mobile

Visited this restaurant after seeing the reviews on trip advisor and we were blown away with the quality, taste and variety of fresh fish. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the staff were exceptional. This is one restaurant that should be on everyone's 'bucket list'. Thanks folks you made our stay a most enjoyable and memorable
experience. Antoinette & Mike

“Friendly service - great fish”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

Agree with other write ups that this is a friendly establishment serving quality fish dishes. Crab cakes starters are recommended and the John Dory falls off the bone - quite delicious. Cheese board is locally sourced and varied. The owners certainly know their fish and are quite open in saying something is off the menu if the supplied fish wasn't up to their standards. A good eating experience.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

We ate there twice during our recent stay in Ilfracombe (we booked both times as it is sometimes very busy.) The hostess who owns this with her husband who is chef is extremely welcoming and informative about the menu. All the courses were excellent and the service very good. The fish was well-flavoured and cooked and there was a good choice of the fish main courses and also the other courses. It is a light and airy restaurant near to the harbour.

“Thyme is on your side!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

On a short break to Ilfracombe we were told where to find some good restaurants but fate intervened and we went the wrong way. However having looked around the harbour we found "Take Thyme" and the immediate impression was good as I saw Rhubarb Crumble on the menu. We went in and were greeted by friendly staff in what also seemed a friendly environment. The menu was as you would expect predominantly fish of all varieties, but I had seen the Exmoor steak on the menu, so that was my order with my wife having Sea Bass. The food was well presented and full of flavour and I then had my crumble with custard. The wine we chose complemented our meals but the surprise was the Rose Port-- what a lovely end to the meal. Many thanks to Tara, John and their staff, we will definitely be back to this small but well formed restaurant
