“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

It all started well, lovely quaint restaurant, nice atmosphere. Starters were nice.
Then it all went wrong on Mains!! How with only our table of 6 in ,could they have got it so wrong?? 4 of us had steaks, not one was cooked correctly, we were trying to eat them without comment but with my Mums well done, dripping with blood it was all too much! One steak asked for sauce seperate had the sauce scrapped off it, and another asked for no sauce came out covered. We expected some nice fresh cut chips, but we got some from Wimpys. 5 of us shared 3 bowls of chips, we were told they were large bowls, but then later when a table of 2 sat behind us they had a bowl each?? Perhaps it's who you know.??!!
But .. the steaks were lovely, tender & juicy. It did clearly say steak & chips, but the optimist in me thought ...... £17, you must have at least a salad garnish - but no, it was true to it's word!!
Catalan Stew was more of a puree, with a cremated couton for good measure.
What a shame - we were hoping to have found a place to hang out for our monthy visits and special occasions - but we will have to keep looking :(

“Brilliant Fresh Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We had a delicious dinner and really enjoyed our night, the food was cooked to order and extremely tasty, the owner was extremely nice too. Excellent value for money and a nice view- if it's warm enough to sit out on the small roof terrace.

“Oh What a Night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

We found this on Tripadvisor and had the best evening we could ever have imagined. The restaurant is very cosy, with lovely warm - what a gift this couple have for creating a truly welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We asked if there was live music and in no time, Geoff had arranged for a local customer to play the piano for us - Mark was superb - a really gifted pianist who played his own compositions, jazz, blues etc - all for the price of a pint! Chrissy produced a meal that was as good as many we've had in michelin starred restaurants - the local smoked brown trout was sublime (sadly, it was my husband who chose that and he only let me have a mouthful). Gorgeous wine too, on the recommendation of Geoff (who then gave us another glass after we'd paid the bill). Cannot wait to arrange a trip to bring friends back - it was fabulous - thank you all for a truly memorable night (and if you need a taxi to get you there, then A2B taxis were brilliant).

“Bistro in a million”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

The evening we spent there was one in a million, a last minute booking which far exceeded our expectations. We wanted a nice cosy evening with live music to end our week in Ilfracombe and we were not disappointed. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, food enjoyable, wine list second to none (we will be buying some of the excellent viognier that we had that night) and we were entertained with some impromptu guitar playing by the owner and his friend, singing and a lovely lively pianist. Nothing was too much for the host and staff. Especially liked the pink floyd music. None of us wanted the evening to end, but it rounded off an altogether perfect week which had been spent with friends to celebrate a 60th birthday. Hopefully, we will get the chance to go back

“Definitely a one-off....and that's what makes it special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

A cosy little restaurant and bar on a terrace with fabulous views from the outdoor patio. Lovely menu, affordable prices, and a great cocktail list to choose from! Tricky to find at first unless you have been given directions, well worth the effort though.
