“Never again at this hotel.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2010

Went on a weekend break with Shearings. While we were not expecting the Ritz, this hotel was a massive disappointment. The room had an appearance of neglect with bulging wallpaper and flakey paintwork. If you would not live in conditions like this at home what makes Shearings think that it is acceptable on a holiday, even if the cost is comparatively low? The standard of catering was also very poor. The breakfasts were just about acceptable but the evening dinners were appalling. An insult to served such fare. only bright spot was the service in the restaurant, which was excellent. Such a contrast to everything else at this sub-standard hotel

Have not long returned from a repeat visit to The Dilkhusa Grand Hotel, owned by Shearings Holidays. I went with a small group of friends.Everything excellent except they haven't changed the Restaurant Manager,it is time she went, she looks like "The Cats Dinner"scruffy and rather dirty, not at all like the rest of the staff. Sorry to see Lee and Danny have moved on.Have heard that they are getting a new Manager of Entertainment, not before time. Thank you for meeting our requests, see you again next year. Howard and gang.

We wanted a low cost short relaxing break so we booked with Shearings and ended up here. We did read the reviews on here first and we weren't sure what to expect. Well, the place could do with a refurb but it was clean, the staff were excellent and the food was superb. Ilfracombe is a lovely place and there are lots of walks in the countryside around the town as well as things to do in the town. The Dilkhusa is excellently placed for everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and came home relaxed and happy which was exactly what we wanted.

I and six friends (in our 70's+) spent 5 days at the Dilkhusa on a self drive Shearings holiday. We were met in the carpark by a member of staff, who unloaded ad delivered our luggage to my room (I was temporarily disabled due to a total knee replacement) Tuesday not too happy to report I spent the afternoon in bed to keep warm, the hotel was cold throughout in all rooms. A word with management and they supplied a mobile heater to my room and arranged the heating clocks to advance and delay by one hour. Food wasexcellent and varied. All inclusive drinks and entertainment made it great value (£145 for 5 days) All rooms were clean and well serviced: Local area too hilly for my disabillity but my friends enjoyed a different trip out each day. Full marks to the management for their hands on attention to details, including reloading our luggage on departure. Thanks Karen (dep. Manageress) and All of your staff.!!! (ps. we as a group have holidayed all over Britain with Shearings this was excellent keep up the good work)

We stayed at the Dilkhusa for a 3 night break with National Holidays in October. Our coach driver Bob was fantastic. He kept us all entertained with jokes and stories and really made our holiday special. When we arrived at the hotel, the manager greeted us on the coach and made us feel welcome. The hotel itself is like a maze of stairs and corridors and if my husband didn't have a good sense of direction we would never have found our way back to our room after a few drinks in the bar. The staff are fantastic - very hardworking and friendly. The food is okay, nothing special but edible. The entertainment was very good, especially the compere who works really hard. I will definitely go back again.

We stayed at the Dilkhusa 22-25th October on a mystery trip for £ 69. The whole break was excellent from start to finish. Yes, it could do with a refurb but for that price who could complain. Some guests who had paid more had All Inclusive bar for three hours in the evening. It cost £ 50 each to upgrade as we did because we both like a drink . There was very good entertainment with Mike Terri who is excellent. We had a quiz each night and bingo on Saturday night. The day out to Exmoor on Sunday was interesting with a visit to Dunster and Lynmouth. Scenery was breathtaking. There was also an optional trip to Barnstable on Sat am for £5. Our driver Mike was excellent and very informative as he lived in the area. We really enjoyed the break and look forward to our next trip with Shearings.

Situated on the level seafront of this hugely popular Victorian seaside resort stands the welcoming Dilkhusa Grand Hotel. It is also just a short walk from the bustling 10th-century harbour where Britain’s most famous living artist, Damien Hirst, owns a restaurant.
