This was my second stay at the "Duke". As before, I felt it was excellent value for money. The rooms were still clean and comfortable, the food good and all of the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there was a problem with a lack of running water one day as a tank was being repaired, but as there are two supermarkets in the village it was easy to purchase a bottle of water to make a drink in our room. I was a little concerned though, that by the time of evening meal (when there was still no running water), we went into the dining room as usual and no one had been able to wash their hands before entering. For a hotel/company that is so fussy about norovirus I would have liked to have seen a member of staff offering a squirt of hand gel,or indeed a bottle of hand gel by the door as on this particular day the coach party I was with had just visited the "Wildlife Park" handling animal artefacts!!!

Thank you for reviewing the Duke of Gordon Hotel and your kind comments. I apologise that during your visit we found it necessary to have emergency repairs carried out on one of the water tanks which created an inconvenience to our guests for a short period. I do hope this did not spoil your enjoyment too much.
All bedrooms, public bathrooms and staff areas are provided with sanitising gel and we actively encourage all guests take our advise and make use of the gel at all times. I take your point regarding the hand gel at the restaurant door, thank you for this suggestion. We will certainly implement this should a similar incident arise in the future.
I trust you had a safe and pleasant journey home and we look forward to welcoming you to the Duke again in the future.

Regards

Our normal holiday choice is usually a top rated hotel / resort in UK or abroad. We were intrigued however by a very simple brochure from Cairngorm Travel Coach Holidays arriving in the post.

We declared many years ago after several shambolic Shearings coach holidays definitely never again however in need of a treat we booked a short break with Cairngorm Travel staying at the Duke of Gordon Hotel. I have to be honest we fully expected the worst but our journey to the hotel went without a hitch.

On our arrival at the hotel the processing took minutes thanks to the hotel reception & our driver (Steve great guide and driver) having it all pre-arranged.

The hotel was very warm and welcoming especially a log fire in the welcoming lounge. The food was plentiful varied be it breakfast or evening meal (one niggle lunch and snack sandwiches in triples not appreciated more for builders I reckon certainly out of place in this fine hotel but nevertheless still very tasty even if you have to train up on big Mac mouthfuls first)

The dining room staff were wonderful ever attentive always looking to give their best in a word brilliant. The bedroom / bathroom were large and spotlessly clean. We may of had a creaky floor board but what the heck lets talk value for money and this hotel excels. Our room was at the rear of the hotel no problem for us, appreciating the efforts of the hotel staff is the key and these folk are excellent.

This hotel is a cosy well run unit for the individual guest and the group. We could have had a niggle over the odd dish but bearing in mind the sheer volume of guests sitting to table some dish may be less than five star in presentation but the taste was consistently good.

The Duke excels in going the extra mile with little touches that mean so much, the piping into dinner, the lovely log fires, the dining room staff wishing us a safe journey and waving us off and many more little gems which mean so much, even the look of sheer disbelief on the face of young well bearded tender of Ghillie's Bar when asked do you serve tea? priceless.

The hotel is situated in a lovely very quiet village it is well worth looking up a Cairngorm short Coach break and get some real value for money. A lovely hotel in a lovely area it does not seek to be pretentious it's values are old fashioned honest good service & good value.

We stopped here today for a bar meal and I truly wish we had not. The building from the outside looks lovely, however once inside it is very dated and definitely needing a good clean and updated. Our food took ages and arrived wrong and was very below average. The meal was not expensive but I wish when it arrived I had just sent it back and cancelled my order as I have been very ill since eating it.

First of all I would like to thank Paul for his friendly welcome when we arrived on Friday the 11th of October. Beautiful hotel in an amazing setting, friendly reception and staff.

I appreciate it is hard to please all of the people all of the time, but as a retired chef/manager the food and service in the restaurant left a lot to be desired.

The waitress service was dire, through no fault of their own I hasten to add, total lack of organistional skills sadly lacking by whoevers in charge.

Breakfast spot on, sadly the same could not be said about the abysmal "table d'hote dinners" a fact we did not know when we booked with Cairngorm travel.

I am saddened to make this complaint but to survive in the world of hospitality you have to be on top form.

Last but not least, not good to see giant cobwebs in the windows of the ballroom!

We stayed here for 2 nights recently on a DBB basis for a weekend break and really enjoyed our stay. The buffet dinner on the Saturday night was very good so was the table d'hote dinner. Breakfast was also good, dining room staff were very efficient and pleasant. We had a large room which was nicely furnished and very was clean. The staff were very polite and helpful and overall we had a really good break. If I had to mention any negative it would be the evening entertainment, although nothing wrong with it, it catered more for the elderly which was the majority of people staying in the hotel. Don't let this put you off as we would definately stay here again.

We were at a family wedding on the 20th sept first proble the carpet was that bumpy in the lobby I caught my heel and to my embarrassment feel to the floor then after the speeches were done I went to the toilet and got told off as the soup was being served and I was not the only one!!!!! also was asked to hurry with my soup as the hotel had a schedule to keep that was the saying of the day then when our main meal came we were half way through when the waitresses removed the veg of all the tables before anyone could say anything they were gone found the restaurant manager running round checking every 2 minutes to see if anyone was finished alot of people said they felt rushed so never finished their food the wedding cake was cut and the bride had asked that every table got a plate of cake there was a couple of tables that didnt my sister needed to take her son (who has a medical condition with his bladder )was told told she could not go to the toilet as they were doing the line up she explained that she needed to take her son to the disabled toilet as he needed sorted and it was her mothers wedding and she would understand to which she was told she could not use the disabled and had to trail downstairs to the ladies which is to small and not private for her 7 yeat old son I could go on but my biggest problem was the attitude of the restaurant manager dont know his name just that he has glasses and a beard and was the topic of conversation the next day as to how rude he was the wedding is supposed to be the happiest day of your life I just hope the bride and groom get a very big apology
