“3rd visit but not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

I returned for the third time, this being the second group visit. Some 29 in our party.
Whilst the evenings entertainment was a little better the food was not as good
The major issue was Santa' gift which for the second year running proved to be out of date chocolates (approx 1 year out of date)
It is unlikely that we will visit a fourth time, principally because there is little more to do or see in the locality.
Room disappointing, tiles missing in bathroom, dormer roof which was less than suitable when you are 6ft 2inches tall.
Staff exceptionally good, ours is a disabled group and staff very patient and considerate.

Came here with Cairngorm Travel who own the hotel. The weather was decidedly wintry but the hotel was warm and cosy. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Te food on 2 nights was good and on the other 2 was exceptional. When we left the staff came out into a very cold car park to wave us off - a nice touch

as we live in strathspey we dont have the need to stay in the local hotels but do like the occassional meal out . hence we called in to try the christmas lunch, well it was also my birthday . we were amazed by the meal offered to us for £9.95. achoice of two starters and 3 mains followed by coffee and mince pies..the starters were fine but the mains were unbeleivably good .my traditional turkey had all the trimmings in .plenty of quality and quantity. my wifes salmon was the largest piece of salmon she has had in a long time and i am told was also one of the tastiest.the meals were so good we ate nothing for the rest of the day.the meals were well presented and the serviceexcellent . in fact my wife is going back next week with a friend to sample it all again..

Dear Guest, Due to a problem with our heating system we found it necessary to close for 4 days. I apologise that you were unable to have lunch and I would be happy if you would call me on 01540661302. I fully understand your frustration and hope that we can discuss the situation. We never like disaointing our customers but on this occation the problem was beyond our control and I am sorry that you were disapointed. I trust that you will call me and allow me to restore you confidence in the Duke of Gordon.

Really liked this hotel. We had a very comfortable room and liked the ambience of the hotel. We found the food and the choice on the menu to be excellent. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We were "piped" in to dinner on two evenings. The entertainment was really good as well. Yes, we were on a coach trip and the hotel was full, but there were a couple of tables with people travelling as couples and with friends and they seemed to enjoy the busy atmosphere of the hotel. We were really inpressed all round and will certainly return.

As a party of 17 people in their 60's we visited this hotel on a coach trip with Cairngorm Travel. The trip was very well organised and everything ran smoothly on the journey, at the hotel itself where your cases are taken to your room and on the excursions around the area. The hotel was comfortable and the food reasonable for the price. The breakfast buffet was good and plentiful with lots of choice, but the black pudding was always overcooked and hard. The service was very good and the staff always smiling and happy to accommodate any request.
There was a nice bar where people could enjoy a good variety of beers, wine and spirits where our party would meet after dinner. However, on the negative side this bar would close at 8pm when the nightly entertainment started in the ballroom. This entertainment was not to my party's taste as it was mainly for those who enjoy old fashioned Scottish dancing and music, and bar in the ballroom closed at around 11pm. We did, however, find a decent bar a few yards from the hotel which was glad of our custom as Kingussie was not the busiest town we have visited, and carried on serving until we were readt to leave.
Overall the trip was well organised, the hotel, food and service was fine and good value for money, and if you enjoy Scottish dancing and an early night then this may be for you. For our party the trips out were good but if you like lively and late nights then you will be disappointed.

This was our first visit to this hotel and our first ever coach trip. The accommodation, food and entertainment were good and the whole experience enjoyable with no complaints. The staff work very hard to ensure guest satisfaction. Excellent value for money and will certainly be back.

This hotel is well experienced in looking after coach parties and their staff are clearly well trained in this. The accommodation, food and entertainment are good considering the package price that most coach parties would pay. I would not recommend this hotel for a couple looking for a quiet break, but it is ideal for groups ( ours was 50 people ). A great area for walking and exploring.
Staff were always smiling and always helpful.
