“Enjoyable short stay at the Scot House Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2010

My fiance and I spent one night at the Scot House Hotel whilst visiting the Highliand Park Wildlife Park. Hotel was a 6 minute drive from the park which suited the purposes of our trip.We paid £59 for one night bed and breakfast and throughly enjoyed our stay.

Colin, the owner, immediatly made us feel welcome on our arrival. Rooms were clean and spacious with tea and coffee making facilities. Bathroom was clean although I did notice that the bath panel was hanging off in our bathroom.

Kingussie itself is a one street town. Restaurants there stop serving food at 9pm so late eaters beware, We did not dine in the Scot Hotel however we did join the owner, Colin, and his wife for a drink at the bar with the other guests and were made most welcome.

We were offered both a continental (cereal, toast, fruit) and Scottish breakfast (sausage, bacon, eggs made to suit, tomatos and black pudding), all delicious. For an extra cost you could also order kippers or omlette so lots of choice.

Overall this hotel exceeded our expectations in terms of service considering the price we paid and we would stay there again if we returned to the area and recommend it to friends/family..

We arrived to a very warm welcome by the owner, the rooms were spotless clean and had everything you needed, food lovely. Will definately return as we thought it was excellent value for money.

We stayed here just after the huge snowfall in the highlands at the end of Feb and were a bit worried about getting here, the A9 only reopened the day before we travelled! We chose this hotel based on the special offer price and the location, we were going to ski in the Cairngorms and Kingussie is about 20-25 minutes drive to the mountain. I can definitely say we weren't disappointed with our stay. When we arrived there was a warm welcome from Colin who was waiting on the reception and had plenty of information for us. The room was very comfortable and not at all cold as some reviews have mentioned. There was tea/coffee making facilities that were stocked up every day and the bathroom was clean and new if a little cramped, the shower was fab though, really strong and hot, just what you need after a long day skiing.
We couldn't fault breakfast at all, they had the usual array of cereals and juices and the toast and hot breakfast was cooked to order. We found on our last morning that the manager, waitress and chef were all waiting for us as we were the only guests staying! We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening as we quite liked the walk into the village (only 5 mins). On the first night we ate at the Tipsy Laird, which is a pub with a superb restaurant which we can highly reccomend. The second night it was cheap and cheerful fish and chips in the cafe which we couldn't fault, and on the third night we went up to Aviemore for an curry which was fine but nothing special.
If you're hiring ski equipment, try Aviemore Ski & Snowboard as you can also buy your ski passes before you go up the mountain, especially if it's busy as you could get up there and be disappointed.
To summarise this is a cosy little hotel which makes a great base to visit the Cairngorms without paying the inflated Aviemore prices.

Nice clean quite place, rooms nice and big with new bathrooms, friendly staff and manager too.

Food was OKish, nothing special and I'd try other places before eating here but the breakfast was fine.

Only thing that let this place down was it was freezing cold, so cold there was ice on the inside of the windows.

I booked at short notice as a birthday/anniversary break for my husband and myself and was delighted to find an offer of 3 nights BB for £99. Too good to be true you say well yes it was - we were on the top floor room 7 - we were cold and a little wet on arrival but looking forward to our stay - the hotel was pleasant enough it was mid afternoon when we arrived and booked in and went to our room, the central heating was not on but the bathroom had a towel heater rail in it which we switched on. By 6pm the central heating still had not come on and the room was very cold after showering for the evening meal I wrapped mysIf in one of the blankets whilst my husband got ready. We ate in the Hotel restuarent the meal was fine although the menu limited. Back for a good nights sleep - not - we were too cold . The following day we were out all day on on our return my husband went tto reception to see about the heating - to which he was told it was on a timer - when he told Reception it was only lukewarm they said it would probably want bleeding by the heating engineer we assumed it would be sorted - as it wasn't we spent yet another cold night packed up as soon as we woke and left - I informed reception we were checking out early as room 7 was not warm enough to stay in -the comment we got was `oh right`. Now glad to be home!!

Wife and I stayed here for one night when travelling north. A good, clean and well run establishment of its type - old but well maintained with real Scottish character in an area that turned out to be much more interesting than we had expected. Manager very helpful with advice. We purchased an all inclusive package that was good value. Recommended.

Upon arriving I was pleased to see there was ample parking for myself and the other guests. Upon entering the hotel we were met by a cheery gentleman who showed us the facilites available and directed us to our room. The room was very clean and welcoming and the shower room was excellent. The food served both at night and at brekfast was very good and the prices for alcoholic drinks was below average. Overall a very pleasant experience and someplace I would not mind staying for a longer duration.
