“Short Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

Just spent a fantastic overnight stay in this great hotel. Fantastic value for money. Great service and fantastic food. We stayed in the Turnberry, lovely big room. One little moan would be the pipes are a bit noisy. Would be more than happy to recommend this hotel.

the bar restuarant is very lively with a buzz about the place. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough to make sure you enjoy the experience. We had a lovely meal that was extremely good value and will go back again.
We only came for the food as we live locally. It is one of the best in Blairgowrie

Haven`t stayed at the hotel as I don`t live far away, but have been lucky enough to catch a couple of the traditional music sessions in the bar - dozens of musicians and singers from local area and beyond, all excellent, and there`s a great atmosphere, highly recommended! Need to check with hotel to find out when they`re on as they aren`t that regular.

On the 10th-12th September 2013 we stayed at this hotel (My parents did at least - T & K Gunn) they found from the time they arrived until the time they left the staff could not do enough for them. The food was excellent with a good variety on the menu standard of service very high. Obviously a very good chef. Good size portions, deserts wonderful. The staff were very professional and seemed happy in their work. The packed lunches were to a high standard also. room was lovely - superior room - huge comfortable bed, modern facilities. They would rate this hotel 100%. We wish the business every success - it deserves it. They will be back.

Myself and my small son (aged 2) have just returned from our stay at the Royal Hotel in Blairgowrie.

Being a single mother I am on a tight budget, and therefore requested the cheapest possible room available - so please bear in mind that this review is based on the cheapest possible room in the hotel.

It was very very very nice indeed. When we arrived, the lovely lady on reception welcomed us and gave us our keys. We had to go up a small flight of stairs (easily manageable alone with the buggy) but the lady insisted on helping me upstairs, carrying my buggy on her own (with all my luggage in the basket underneath) whilst I carried my little boy. After a long journey, this was really appreciated!

Our room was very clean, and we had everything we needed, a little kettle for tea and coffee, some biscuits, soaps and beautifully folded towels. There was also a television in the room, and one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in in a long time.

We headed downstairs to have a drink, where we were met with a roomful of friendly people at the bar again who were all extremely nice to my little boy and we were even lucky enough to hear a young lad play the bagpipes. He must have been around 12 year old, and it was lovely to hear, and my son was delighted to hear the "MUZIK" as he described it.

We were up for the Highland Games, and again, the hotel staff were extremely helpful, letting us know where to go, offering taxi numbers and walking options alike.

The breakfasts at the hotel were lovely, the porridge being particularly excellent. Porridge does always taste better in Scotland anyway, but this one was particularly nice. The waiter and waitress at breakfast were efficient and friendly, and the breakfast table comfortable and a nice treat for us both.

There is absolutely nothing that I can think of that was in any way a disappointment. We were treated fantastically by every single member of staff at the hotel, our room was lovely, the breakfast was lovely, the town itself is lovely and we hope be back in a year´s time, and will of course be staying at the Royal Hotel again if they have availability.

With regard to one or two of the mean - spirited reviews on this site complaining of piffling and petty matters such as "the lack of shower caps" (!!!!!), "curtains too thin" etc I would urge anyone who reads them to ignore them and read mine. I have written this as soon as I arrived home. You don´t get more current than that!

My final word - Fantastic - would heartily recommend.

The Royal Hotel is a reasonably priced hotel (£70 per double room with breakfast) which could be really good, with a bit of QA and attention to detail.
The room was a standard room (apparently superior rooms were available) but the initial impression was clouded by bits of fluff and small pieces of paper on the carpet in the room. There was also significant staining on a piece of carpet en-route to the room. The en-suite bathroom toilet roll holder was screwed to the wall with one screw when two were needed to prevent it from tipping the roll on to the floor. The shower control was impossible to get a temperate output - temperatures were either very hot, or "Hello Lucifer"! The room handles and locks were from early 1970s and were a fiddle to lock the door.
We discovered later in the week that there was a dirty sheet stuffed under the bed!
Breakfast quality was fine, but the hotel had a daft system for allocating tables. Some sort of lottery system was in place where a room number tag was placed on a table and referenced by a list on a clip board. The restaurants (two of them) were not busy at breakfast time, so it would not be a problem for guests to choose where to sit. Finding us allocated to a table with rather uncomfortable seats, we asked for a change. We didn't quite need UN intervention, but it was clearly a difficult concept for the staff!
Breakfast could have been enhanced by provision of grapefruit and prunes or similar and more than two fruit juice options. Cereals, porridge and yoghurts had a fair provision, but the cooked options were limited to full Scottish and fried, poached or scrambled eggs. There was no fish option (kippers of haddock would have been a good enhancement). We arrived on a Friday and as the restaurant did not offer a fish option, we ate elsewhere and continued that habit for all five nights.
There is limited on site parking, but on street parking and car parks are nearby - provided you can move the car from car parks by 08:30 and from on street by 09:00 Monday to Saturday. Parking restrictions start at 08:30 but the on street allows free parking for up to 30 minutes.

Room Tip: We did not have the option of superior rooms when we booked, but these might be a good option when a...
