“Had a lovely Easter break in cosy hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013 via mobile

No complains. Nice room, lovely meals and friendly staff. Great area for walking as well as skiing. Busy over Easter but even so our room was nice and quiet.
Did some of the Cateran Trail walks from the hotel (took bus back from Kirkmichael).
We plan to come back.

We cannot recommend this hotel more highly - staff were very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to assist - and made this a very enjoyable first hotel trip for us with our new baby. For example we were able to store milk in the fridge and breastfeed in the lounge areas. They even held up meals ordered until baby had gone to sleep !

Ate here with family and friends, busy Saturday night at the hotel. Four attentive waitresses made sure we were well attended. Food was top notch, had mackerel for starter (pear smoked) delicious followed by the steak pie. A PROPER pie, not a stew with a puff pastry on top. Nice thick well cooked chips and a side plate of veg. Well with a visit.

We were lucky. 10 days of great Scottish hospitality and brilliant weather....going home, overnight stop at this place. How lucky can you get? The place is a must. The welcoming committee was just right. Manager/owner in situ...accomplished, pretty and pleasant staff to show us round, clean (recently refurbished) room, toilet flush 4.5 out of 5.0, warm and welcoming bar, busy but reservable restaurant and real log fire roaring away.
Food from this chef is robust and accomplished. Try the lamb loin, rare. Excellent and substantial.

Great walks from the hotel, Cateran trail beginning from the hotel garden through the woods beside the river. Excellent.
Down points are ephemoral...teething problems of loose plumbing fittings, rectifiable easily, but the shower curtain is vexacious...I did the dance of seven sticky veils just to get out of the bath (not seperate shower) but who cares...not 5 star but who wants perfection? Very well done to all staff and the team effort. Very good to know you are there.
Dog friendly.

Room Tip: End of corridor as traditional Scottish chipboard flooring creaks noisily as guests walk by!

Many thanks for your review and your kind comments. We are delighted you had such a good trip to Scotland.
As you said in your review the walks from the hotel are just great, we are very lucky with our situation. And as the weather gets a little warmer (hopefully sometime soon!) then hopefully we'll get more and more walkers through the door.
Thank you for the comments about the plumbing fittings, hopefully in time these will be upgraded.
Thanks again for taking the time to write a review,

3rd time I've stayed here in 4 years. Brilliant service in a great setting. Went for the ski bundle which included lift passes and dinner b&b. Lamb rump was fantastic. Good veggie options for my son. If your in this area this is a great place to stay.

We have been so lucky with the ski season this year, its just great. We're very glad you chose to stay with us. And if outdoor activities are your thing then summer brings a whole new selection of things to do in our area. We have walking, mountain biking, golf and lots more right on our doorstep.
We hope to welcome you back sometime in the future.

Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was very clean and bed very comfy! Food was lovely and shower nice and hot. Definitely will be back when going skiing again up Glenshee. The only improvement I would suggest perhaps would be to have an extra staff member at night as felt the bar staff were rushing between bar and serving food etc.

Many thanks for your review, we are delighted you stayed with us while up skiing. What a season it has been for Scottish skiing, just great.
Many thanks for your comments about the staffing, we always try to have enough staff on to cope with the numbers but sometimes we get it wrong.
We very much hope to see you again in the future.

Well done to the new owner what a difference. Had an excellent meal on Easter Sunday 2013 with my daughter and her children age 5 and 11 months. Food to die for. And the children had real fish fingers and proper hand cut chips. Portions were really far too much for me. Got half my starter and one of my big big salmon fish cakes to take home. Sharon the waitress and the waiter were so nice service was great. So glad I went back as I had stopped because the food went down hill. Will be my regular eating place as next to our caravan. The restaurant was full so I was lucky to get a table. This is a great place and children are made really welcome. My grandchildren think they own it toys are available from the toy box and they can play in one of the sitting rooms. Also digs are welcome in the bar and you get a great heat from the log fire. Don't hesitate with this one. You won't bee let down. 10/10 bridge of cally.
