“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014 via mobile

We used an itison voucher for our stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and clearly work very hard. We stayed in the Rose room which is lovely and old fashioned in its decor. The breakfast was fresh bad very tasty. We ate at the restaurant both nights and the food was delicious. The building itself is beautiful and the lounge area is really cosy. We had a lovely stay here and would definitely come back

I was looking forward to this stay and was impressed by the photos on the web. From the outside I was not disappointed beautiful grounds and nice reception area. Then it was turn of the room really tired and like a scene from Fawlty towers. Room was cold though a blow heater provided. The bed was like lying on a bed of bricks which I managed to roll into the gap in the middle on a number of occasions. Was wakened 5am to the sound of a drowning cat well the peacocks to be precise. All day into late at night. Breakfast menu provided great choice even smoked salmon. Though I received salmon out of the tin??? Found breakfast staff in a rush to get us out did not feel welcomed at all. Bar was closed both evenings. Not sure whether this is teething problems it is such a shame as it has much potential

Our room was in the courtyard. Was small with no windows. We were not told at time of booking that we would not be in the main house. The room was clean, but not a country house hotel experience.
Dinner was an odd experience. The menu had many dishes and a bit of an identity crises. It is an Italian, but also traditional Scottish food. It just didn't seem to fit well with the theme of the place and perhaps trying to be too many things has diluted the quality of the food.
They had also tried to add some Italian accessories to the dining room, but that just took away from the traditional feel of the place.
The peacocks in the ground were really nice-but getting woken up by their screeching at 6am was not pleasant .
Location was fab and the potential of this place is great-it just didn't feel all that comfortable

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main house

It's a pleasure to please the owners by writing this text for Tripadvisor. They know how to receive people! We stayed at this hotel with a group and we've really appreciated. The food is totally amazing! You must absolutely visit this place.

After hearing this place had been taken over by new owners I was curious to see what it offered... and it did not disapoint. It was the perfect place for our weekend break. A beautifully secluded location but just a short walk into town. I was a little worried having read some of the old reviews but I can honestly say the stay was great start to finish. The hotel itself is a lovely building set in gardens with peacocks, the interior was very impressive with high ceilings, a grand piano and lit open fires. We were upgraded to a superior double at no extra cost which was a huge room with the biggest bed I have ever seen. We ate in the Italian restaurant and the food was amazing, fresh pasta made in the hotel and the service was with a smile. We couldn’t have asked for more at such a reasonable price. Well done to the new owners!!

Room Tip: The Superior Double bed was incredible! I didn't want to leave!

I recently stayed using a half price voucher and thought it was completely worth the money. The staff were very friendly and polite. The room was small but perfectly formed. The en-suite provided a few laughs due to the noise of the pump taking away the water from all of the facilities, quite unexpected. We didn't eat in the hotel but really loved the surroundings and the peacocks (though the pea-hen often sounded a bit harried :) )
Would definitely go back with a voucher and may even try the restaurant and bar next time.

Decided to try the new place in town for a girly night out after hearing only good reports and thouroughly enjoyed our meal. Great value for money and great friendly service. Wide variety on the menu which offered not only their specialiality Italian menu but also good choice of scottish dishes available too. Will be returning here for sure.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Altamount House Hotel in Blairgowrie has reopened in March 2014 under new owners after extensive refurbishments. It is a family run business and we like to think that we can provide you with a "home from home" experience in one of Scotland's most magnificent Counties. The Georgian house was built as a private home in 1800, and although restored in some areas we have managed to maintain all of its Periodic Charm. Altamount House is set within 6 acres of beautifully peaceful gardens and mature woodlands in the heart of Perthshire and we welcome you from near or afar. Although the Hotel is only a 5 minute walk into the Blairgowrie town centre, it is very quiet and secluded in its grounds, which makes it a perfect venue for Weddings, Conferences or just a romantic break for 2!!! If you prefer a more action packed holiday Golf, Fishing, Shooting and Skiing are all on our doorstep. Rosemount and Lansdowne Championship Golf courses are just 1 mile away, with a further 40 courses within 10-30 minutes from us. ... more   less
