This place is a gem, set in a quiet village but in no way isolated, it is a perfect base from which to explore the Furness area and the further reaches of the Lake District.
The hosts, Tony and Kay, are very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble.
The accommodation is set a few paces from the pub itself meaning there is less likelihood of being disturbed by patrons of the pub which can be an issue with some pub based B&B accommodation.
Also, with access not being via the pub, guests can come and go whenever they please without being reliant on the hosts for access.
The room was in very good repair, very clean, with ample hot water and heating at all hours of the day. The mattress was very comfortable and the bed linen clean and crisp.
A kettle was supplied with a comprehensive selection of tea, coffee and other hot beverages. There was also a hairdryer and for entertainment a FreeView TV (with integrated DVD and USB).
For breakfast guests can choose from cereals, fresh fruits, yogurt, toast and preserves, full English etc.
The pub itself is a nice simple country pub with good beers and friendly regulars.
There is little mobile signal in Urswick but there is free WiFi so you can keep in touch via Skype or, if you have a Smartphone, via apps such as WhatsApp or Viber.
I have stayed in many hotels and B&Bs over the years and whilst many have been very good there have been few occasions where I would have changed nothing.
I am pleased to say my stay at the Derby Arms was one of those rare occasions where I would change nothing and would recommend it 100%.
