If you aren't staying you are absolutely treated as being second rate.
Last time I played here we were treated warmly, had a great lunch up stairs and a tour of the cottages.
Now we are relegated to only having access to the pro shop and a little coffee room downstairs.. IM not well enough to finish the round so now I have 2 1/2 hours alone while my huband finishes. I think I'll wait in the car- at least I can listen to music to fill in the time

Dear Lorraine 1956,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your recent golf experience at Kauri Cliffs.

We take great pride in the high levels of service on offer at both at the lodge and our golf operations. Significant resources have been established to ensure the golfing experience both here at Kauri Cliffs, and at our sister property Cape Kidnappers, are the best possible.

We have never in any way implied that day golfers will have full access to the lodge facilities in the same way that our lodge guests do. However we do give this access when availability allows us to accept pre booked lunch or dinner reservations from day golfers. There are occasions when this is not possible due to the lodge being fully booked as it was during your visit. We do this to ensure a great experience for our in-house guests as well as our golf guests.

The facilities available to golfers at Kauri Cliffs are world-class and feature a ProShop with an adjacent, comfortable dining area offering a full food & beverage table service, as well as comfortable locker rooms.

Our General Manager was pleased to hear when he spoke to you towards the end of your day that you had been able to fully utilize these offerings and that you had found the ProShop staff helpful and attentive.

While I understand you were upset not to be able to access the lodge facilities. I am hopeful you can understand our policy of ensuring that every visitor to the property receives the best possible service. You have now exchanged business cards with our General Manager, going forward he would be delighted to confirm a dining reservation for you in the lodge the next time you play golf at Kauri Cliffs.

Yours sincerely

Jay Robertson

Kauri cliffs is a beautiful place, best appreciated at hole 7 & 14, with incredible views of the bay & thr beaches.  Sadly, I left my heart in Matakauri.  Kauri cliffs is great for golfers, & even minus the golf course it has the best /most facilities of the 3 lodges (ie the spa is a beauty and the gym is the most well equipped), the suite with private porch and fireplace was the most spacious, but Matakauri has the most distinctive and contemporary design (though it is compact), Cape Kidnappers is a close 2nd in terms of design but had the best food of the 3, & Kauri Cliffs is best described as the grand dame.

The view whether at the main lodge or my room were closer to the water vs Cape Kidnappers, but nothing like at Matakauri where one warm afternoon you'd see tropical like turquoise green water against emerald hills and wake up the next morning with the same exact mountains snowcapped.  I also missed the big fluffy down blankets that they had at CK and Matakauri. Was a bit cold in my room here.

Unlike Cape Kidnappers and Matakauri, there wasn't a tasting menu, something I really enjoyed at the other two lodges for the variety albeit smaller portions yet perfectly executed dishes, though the food at KC was very good too.

Staff at all three lodges were charming.

Of the 3 lodges, I did not rent a car at CK and just stayed on the property for the 3 nights there, a car (or driver) is a must for Matakauri, for KC drove myself up from Auckland in torrential rain but next time I'd just fly into the local airport.  I did enjoy a lovely walk into the Puketi Forest (with Adventure Puketi) but had just as much fun driving around the KC golf course in a golf cart coz the Matauri Bay scenery is quite impressive.  My only regret is that I should have extended my stay here by at least one more night!

We popped in for lunch at the Kauri Cliffs and they were fantastic. Prior booked table for lunch and they went out of there way to organize everything. If you want romance, good food and location...this is the place to be.

Kauri Cliffs is (just about) faultless! Right from our arrival everything was perfect. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and professional, efficient and friendly. Our deluxe suite (a complimentary upgrade from our booking) was luxurious. The food was fabulous, with a great NZ influence and wine offerings to match. The golf course is spectacular, the pro shop staff are very helpful and even the expansive practice facilities have a stunning view of the coastline! The spa is divine, also with an amazing outlook. The only (minor) flaw was the very limited range of TV stations, couldn't catch-up on the Australian test cricket!

Kauri Cliffs is off the beaten track but well worth the journey. We spent three nights here with our young children and could not fault the staff - it was a wonderful experience and once in a lifetime chance to see how the rich and famous live!
The rooms were more like a villa with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and beautiful views and decorated in an understated Hamptons style that was very relaxing. The space between other rooms made them feel very private and secluded. It was a bit of a walk from the restaurant back to the villa, and at night was pretty dark, but we enjoyed stretching our legs.
The staff in the restaurant were genuinely keen to make us feel welcome and spent time explaining the menu in detail to our children, including how each dish was made and whether they would like any changes made (budding Junior Masterchefs). The Somelier was excellent and recommended some of the best NZ red wines I have ever tasted. The food was beautiful and just hit the right note, not too over the top. I also loved the 'cocktail hour' before dinner.
Little touches like the 'free minibar' and the bottomless fresh cookie jar were a big hit with our family as were the golf carts. A walk to the big Kauri tree and down to Pink Beach is a must. The infinity pool was also a delightful place to spend the afternoon.
All in all, nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff and they bent over backwards to ensure that we all had a wonderful time. Whilst Kauri Cliffs is at the very high cost end of the market, especially for NZ, it really is a wonderful experience and worth it for a special occasion.

One of the most perfect experiences I have had travelling recently! The room, staff, food, golf were all beyond expectations. From the moment we arrived at the front door and were so warmly greeted , to the great golf course and fab dinners - we were spoilt.

The staff were so friendly and genuine and knowledgeable.
The rooms were immaculate. They had thought of everything. I wanted to move in forever!

Felt sorry for RnR_Report below. Their biggest gripe seems to be the limited TV stations and paying for wine - this is not what you got to Kauri Cliffs for. Its all about views, walks and golf NOT TV watching...ahhhh some people!

What's not to like and love about this place? A stunning location with faultless service. Our children were welcomed and made to feel at home, despite us worrying that their manners might not have been up to scratch. Loved the spa and the treatment - exquisite surroundings looking out into the native New Zealand bush. I was interested in the finding beautiful original art pieces having been to the Auckland City Art Gallery and having seen the Robertson collection.
The food was a dream but not overdone, with options for all diners. I enjoyed talking about the wines with the sommelier.
