“Birthday meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012 via mobile

Booked for my birthday and what a brilliant night we all had. The decor was modern and bright with gorgeous lights. The food was beautiful and there was plenty of it. The staff are helpful, friendly and attentive. Overall a fab Indians and I will be back, you should give it a go. Best I've ever been to. :-D

“Best curry house around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

This was recommended and was not a disappointment - the king prawns were great. The owner is a confident an friendly man who made us feel welcome and his recommendations hit the spot. Slightly chintzy decor for a new restaurant (like the feature wall cabinet full of Moët - exuding much less class than the food!).

“Lovely deco but disappointed in the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My husband and i have Been to this restaurant twice, the first time was when it had just opened , the service was very slow but we just put this down to it just opening and thought the food would make up for our one hour wait for our starters !!! But we were very disappointed in the food , very ordinary, we both thought we would give it another visit as we loved the atmosphere and deco so we did and again food did not impress us one bit !!! We both love Indian food and try lots of different places but will not be revisiting .

“An Excellent Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Just had our first meal at the Shikara and we've come away very pleased with the whole experience. We've been visiting Indian restaurants for many years now but what makes this one stand out for us is that first of all the design is very modern and with there being tables on two floors there is a nice open and airy feel to the whole place, obviously it has not been open too long so everything is in very good order but the whole interior is very well thought out and nicely decorated, a far cry from some of the restaurants in this area which are still a bit 70's ish.
Service was first class, a warm welcome when we arrived and shown to our table exactly on time. All of the staff that attended to us were very pleasant and immaculately turned out.
Most importantly the food, as all the previous positive reviews have said, Fantastic !!!
As with any restaurant, you can't please everyone all of the time but we could find nothing to complain about here, so much so that this seems to be the restaurant that will now become our regular indian restaurant, well done to all at the Shikara.

“Brilliant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

Just been for the Sunday special menu, I am lost for words which is unlike me! This place is the best place to eat in Whitley Bay. All other Indian restaurants here seem to think Indian food is red and processed. Not here! The best, I can't say much more other than we have booked to go back already!
