“Friendly hotel - ask for seaview”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

We had a sea view on a thursday night and enjoyed a good night's sleep. Whitley Bay was quiet on the night we stayed and proved a good choice because the Italian restaurant next door proved to be good value. There are only a few parking spaces in front of the hotel which were taken when we arrived but you can park in the streets nearby after 6pm and before 9am in morning although we moved into a hotel parking slot later in the evening. The hotel is a maze of corridors and we had to shift two heavy cases upstairs and through several doors. I'm sure if we had asked help would have been forthcoming.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view

The noise from the Noir drinks bar is unbelievably loud and i have partial hearing loss in 1 ear. I am in room 6 and can hear every word of 'Summer Nights' and people singing along to it!!!!! Not happy. Reception were lovely at just before 9 and got music turned down but here at 22.20 it's back and now it's Michael Jackson. No matter how clean it is and how good breakfast turns out to be I won't stay here again unless I am planning a late night out to miss the racket.

Served in the Noir restaurant, my mum and I were served a lovely afternoon tea today (even using a groupon voucher). We were offered a great choice of both sandwiches and scones (nice to get a choice) with a lovely selection of mini cakes. Quality was high and the tea was twinnings - always good. The only slight downside was the dark decor, more aimed at evening guests than girly afternoon tea, but easily overlooked.

A lovely friendly hotel on the sea front , Very spacious room clean and comfortable the staff were very friendly they remembered our names which is always good as the hotel was fully booked when we visited ..
The breakfast was one of the best I have seen everything you could think of from a full English to cereal, fruit, hams,
If I were to be in that area again I would not hesitate to book again for a stay at The Royal ..

The Hotel was clean, comfortable, the room was of a good standard and the staff were very helpful, changing our room to a large superior room with sea view, when we arrived. The breakfast was incredible, I think anyone would struggle to find a better breakfast anywhere! Plenty and an amazing variety. Downstairs was a bar area where we enjoyed the Tapas menu. The Hotel was particularly good value for money. I would be happy to stay at the hotel again.

1st. visit - a Groupon ‘Tapas’ deal - and rather good it was, too! A quiet Tuesday, dull & cool outside but welcoming inside. Almost any table to choose so we sat by the window. It’s a large lounge/bar area decorated in a high contrast style Black & White, of course! Pleasant lighting and modern décor. The choice of tapas was considerable and we chose six different ones, inc. Peppered Chargrilled Rump Steak and Tempura King Prawns from the ‘Barkeeper’s Choice’ board. All 6 were excellent, nicely cooked and presented. (do look at the photo’s) We had white wine which was on a very good ‘early bird’ type deal, which the barman went to great pains to explain to me! Thank-you! Good job we were returning by bus!
All in all, an enjoyable experience - well recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front overlook the sea. (but we haven't stayed here)
