“A very nice surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

I had reason to pop up to do a three day piece of work at the nearby business park. I would normally stay down in Newcastle town centre if anywhere in the area on business as there are so many added benefits, but I have never been to Whitley Bay before, and while i was searching for availability I saw a few places coming up here, so I thought it might be a bit of and adventure! so decided to give it a go. It was only three days and if its a proper dive I could always check out and move on. Well I stayed for all thee nights here. A very warm and welcoming greeting from the reception staff, and that kinda summed up every interaction with every member of staff I came across. they have a really good bar, which gets a bit lively on a thursday night!, probably the weekend too. The hotel has a really nice and well liked Italian restaurant on site (technically a different company but for all intents and purposes it might as well be within the hotel (this was very busy on every night which is a very good sign) there are also decent chinese, indian and other eateries next door. I stayed in a sea view suite (double). very spacious room, with fantastic views of the ocean which was really fun during the recent mega storm!. I would of preferred more space to work, there is plenty of room to place a small workdesk for the travelling business man so somewhat suprised they have not addressed this. (the current desk has a 32 inch flatscreen tv) and a coffee / tea tray which takes up the entire desk so I moved the tea tray and there was just about enough room to sit and work) The bathroom is spacious and functional which is useful and very uncommon these days. (however in my opinion while the shower was functional it was weak - I love a rip roaring power shower to wake me up in the morning. The bathroom has an electric shower, but as I said it does the job) Towels were soft and plentyful which is great another rarity these days. The door requires attention as the handle and locking mechanism is a little loose and fiddly to lock the door also needs to be firmly shut or it tends to creep open. Although there is a security chain on the inside for the more security conscious when your inside which is always a good idea. The bed was very comfortable and lighting in the room was adequate. Windows were recent and double glazed (and could be opened easily for some fresh ocean air which is a must for me) or secured with a slight gap which I like to do during the evening occasionally. A large leather couch and coffee table added a nice touch and clearly the whole hotel while not a new building is furnished with bright colours and modern styling where possible. I payed 240 quid for three nights which included an impressive breakfast, would of easy cost you 15 quid in a Newcastle hotel!! (the breakfast area is on the first floor but strangely is overpopulated with tables (all very nicely set out, but I found it difficult to move about, and noticed other guests experiencing the same challenge. If the roomwas full it would be very annoying. All told, I think I made the right decision and suspect this is one of the best hotels in the area it certainly represents value for money, Would definitely return here. speaking to local restaurant owners there is a lot of change going on in the area with the council now restricting (even banning in some cases) Stag and Hen type parties. it is having the result of driving positive changes for those that are not reliant on that type of revenue. In summary. Great little hotel, very friendly, good value and fantastic location, what more could you ask for.

Room Tip: The extra cost of the sea view suites are worth the investment.

Beautiful room, lovely soft towels, plenty of hot water a comfortable bed, good selection of tea, coffee ,hot chocolate and water -and a sea view-what more could one ask for! The breakfast selection rivalled many 4* and 5 * hotels. The staff were pleasant and helpful the only downside being a limited number of parking spaces.

Room Tip: We had a sea view front room overlooking the sea and stayed on a Sunday night which was very quiet e...

Just got home after spending 4 nights in this hotel! This place is great value for money and we were very happy with our room. I read another review on here about room 14 being awful, it was room 14 we were in and we were happy enough with our room and the facilities in it. Not disputing what has been said about the room previously, just that while we were here I couldn't find anything negative to say about it and like I said we stayed 4 nights in it. The staff here and brilliant - very friendly, polite and helpful. The breakfast is also amazing!!! One of the best breakfasts we have ever had in a hotel! Would definitely recommend this place.

Just returned from an excellent stay at this hotel. The staff offer a warm and welcoming experience with every effort made to make your stay as perfect as possible. The buffet breakfast offers Full English as well as Continental. Everything is freshly cooked and regularly replenished, and leaves many 5 star hotels standing. Rooms are generous, spotlessly clean, and tastefully furnished and decorated. The hotel's Noir Bar is also worth a visit, and their in house lager offers quality while being well priced. There is also a fantastic Italian restaurant next door offering guests a 15 percent discount on a la carte. The hotel is also perfectly placed for walking to the Metro for a shopping trip into Newcastle, or hopping off as we did at Tynemouth to visit the pretty town with it's quality bars and restaurants. We had a sea view at the hotel, and every night we fell asleep to the sound of the sea. Indeed, this hotel is a shiny jewel, glistening against the majesty of the North Sea. An early morning walk along the shoreline to work off a very generous breakfast is also recommended!

Had another great stay at the royal how
Anyone can give a bad review about this hotel is beyond me staff are absolutely brilliant we have stayed in five star hotels in Mexico, Greece, turkey, and this hotel, obviously on a smaller scale matches any of them. The two Julies are an asset to this hotel, great stay from start to finish, not forgetting marie who checked us in sorry about after shave.
