“Friendly staff; time for a spring clean.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

The hotel is in a prime position in the centre of attractive Castletown. Our very large room overlooked the castle and had doors leading onto a balcony. It contained a six foot bed (could be converted to twins) a large sofa in the bay window, two arm chairs, two upright chairs with stained fabric coverings and a coffee table. The small en suite shower room had an overhead fixed shower, dripping hot tap and loose glass shelf over the basin. I felt the need to purchase air fresheners and remove webs festooned around the ceiling like Christmas decorations. I did not look too closely at the dust. There was enough storage and tea making facilities provided. The duvet caused us some amusement as it just fitted the bed, not allowing for 'bodies' underneath. However the room was very comfortably warm with heating on twenty four hours a day and much appreciated in the very cold weather.
Despite a collection of modern colourful artwork the overall appearance was bland. Such lovely large rooms held numerous possibilities in decor. The stair carpet to the first floor was past shampooing.
On the plus side all the members of staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, which added to the enjoyment of the stay.Bar meals were large and hot with a good choice of dishes. An excellent car park was an added plus.

Room Tip: Our room 5 was very large with a pleasant view.

Stayed recently for a few nights, the whole place has a really shabby look to it, chairs are worn, carpets look like they need a carpet cleaner using on them each day for a week, paintwork needs doing, rooms are rather 1970\80ish with curtains that need washing, it does make your heart sink on arrival - it would make a massive difference to the whole look of the place just to give it a lick of white paint and the room we stayed in would benefit from small things like clean\light curtains, cleaning out the high centre room light fitting, even painting the brown furniture, but obviously the latter is a personal taste item. All that said the bathroom was spotless and little Annie that does the cleaning to me would be a godsend at any establishment, the bedroom was a descent size and presume it will be made into a twin when busy TT weeks are on plus all the staff could not have been more helpful. The Hotel is right in the centre of Castletown, a short bus ride from the airport with ammeneties all round it. All in all a reasonable place to stay, so guess my only gripe would be, like any establishment, stay on top of your establishments appearance especially when you appear to have good staff running it.

Room Tip: not sure any of the rooms have a sea view, guess it would be if you are not so fit ask for a first f...

This place is run-down, faded, and could badly do with some modernisation and some repainting.

And yet I found I really liked it, when staying for one night recently on a business trip.

It's right in the middle of Castletown, with the shops, harbour, castle, beach all close by. My room was spacious. And the staff (in line with my experience everywhere on the island so far) were very friendly and helpful.

Don't expect modern luxury - but I'd certainly go back.

Popped in for a quick bite just to refuel before another stint shopping.
Once again a warm welcome from the Staff.Somebody had taken time to put up a nice tree and decorate the bar giving it the Christmas feel.
The food came in good time and was extremely tasty and well presented. My Wife commented on the fact that our drinks glasses were extremely clean which is good.
The only negative was the Ladies toilets were very tired and could have been cleaner.I believe that this is a Heron and Brearley hotel and if I am correct they should really spend some money and refurbish them to get them to a acceptable level for a premises that serves food.

Just spent two nights at The George Hotel in Castletown whilst visiting my daughter. Having read the mixed reviews I was a little unsure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I stayed in room number 6 which is a double room over looking the small town square and castle. It was a large room with a double bed and a small ensuite. It was clean, comfortable and had everything I needed. The was a little bit of noise from the bar below but nothing that really bothered me and I slept well on both nights. I didn't have breakfast and so can't comment on the food. At £40 a night I felt it was value for money and I would stay again.

Our room was nice and large, the bathroom was clean and we had a magnificent veiw or Castle Rushen. Those are the good points. I thought it was strange that the kitchen was up on the first floor and all the meals were carried downstairs to the dining room. The smells from the kitchen weren't always pleasant and the carpet on the steps was filthy from the heavy traffic and spilt food. One of the staff members does washing for the guests as a sideline. If you value your clothes DO NOT use their washing services. I was gullible enough to think she could handle it and ended up throwing my brand new shirt in the bin because she destroyed it and I got the washing back wet.

Sophie:Room was spacious, could be updated with the decoration, the room was directly opposite the kitchen and the stairs, which made for noisy goings on in the morning! if we had stayed in another room, then that would have been fine. good location! very friendly and helpful staff! down to earth guys/gals.
could do with getting a new carpet or cleaning it (stairs to the rooms)
didn't have brekkie, but the food for dinner looked, smelt and sounded VERY tasty. I would say YEs to staying here. good price. good. good.

Conor: Friendly helpful staff. Room was spacious & warm. Personal preference would be curtains that weren't cream coloured so you're not woken by the sun at the crack of dawn but whatever. Excellent power shower & toiletries supplied. Tea coffee etc good. Drinks prices were alright in the pub. Nice area, with a VERY nice curry restaurant called Curry Club for all you hotheads out there. Right beside a co-op & a bus stop, beach is also outside the door. We stayed in a double room BUT, the bed was two singles zipped together & the duvet was a bit too small to cover it all. Just a bit noisy at times but what can ya do?

eh?

Room Tip: Stay away from the stairs...
