“Like coming home”

Hillcrest House

We have just returned from a few days at the Hillrest and were welcomed and treated like old friends. Aurea is a terrific cook and I could have lived on her breakfasts! All the food is organic and the juice is freshly squeezed with different combinations of fruit according to taste - I'd forgotten how delicious home cooking is as I usually dash in from work to a grilled chop - but I have been inspired by Aurea to slow down and enjoy the experience. She even gave me some receipes and tips to get me started.

The decor is so not IKEA! - lovingly furnished in a way that combines homeliness with a kind of opulence - the main problem wasn't settling in but having to leave!

I briefly met her husband who was also friendly and welcomng - he is an acupuncturist and advisor on nutrition - I shall have to book him up in advance when I stay next time as he was so busy he couldnt fit me in. I'd love to try acupuncture and I could certainly do with some advice on nutrition - between them I think Aurea and her husband could sort me out! Somebody needs to.....

I really would recommend this fabulous retreat, far away from the pressures of city living - right near the sea too - bliss.

My husband and I stayed at Hillcrest House, a B&B, during the 2004 TT. It is a lovely old Victorian house, right on May Hill (part of the TT course) in Ramsey, and within easy walking distance of both good viewing corners and of Ramsey Center, for restaurants and transportation. The bus and the Manx Electric Railroad are nearby, and we went touring on non-race days.
Tony and Aurea Greenhalgh are gracious, helpful hosts, the breakfasts are wide-ranging in choice and excellent, and the house is full of art and flowers. It is a lovely, gracious, elegant base from which to see the Isle of Man.

“A Real Gem”

Hillcrest House

This intimate guest house must be one of the best, if not the best, on the Isle of Man. The house is beautifully decorated and has a calm and sophisticated atmosphere. The proprietors, Aurea and Tony, who do everything themselves, were incredibly helpful and friendly. We felt like we had stayed with friends rather than at a hotel. The breakfasts were fantastic, on a different level to anything I've experienced before. The area around Ramsey is quieter than Douglas, and very attractive. Getting anywhere by car takes very little time (the main roads being the TT race circuit). The antique tramway starts about five minuetes walk from the house and goes to Douglas, passing the Laxey wheel.
