“The place to stay in Douglas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Had an all too brief stay in the Inglewood recently. My sister and I both had lovely, clean rooms. very spacious and beautifully furnished. Free internet, nice tea and coffee and a good telly - who could ask for more? And the breakfast next morning was excellent - with a great choice from our hosts.

A small hotel in the Isle of Man? This is where to go!

Absolutely fantastic guest house. Pip and Andy are great hosts who make you feel really welcome. Their passion for the island and willingness to help is infectious. The breakfast is superb with a menu to suit all tastes, while the rooms are clean and well appointed. To cap things off the bar has one of the best selections single malt I have seen in the UK. This is one of the friendliest and most welcoming places. Andy and Pip have transformed the hotel in the few years they have been there and the service is second to none. The rooms have been refurbished to a very high standard and the breakfast is great. In the evenings, Andy's Bar is a very pleasant place to relax and meet other guests; at the time of writing, Andy and Pip are just starting to offer coffee and cakes during the day and if this is run with the same ethos, which I strongly suspect it will be, then there will be plenty to enjoy.
OK, so the building doesn't accommodate a lift, but if you are a keen walker, there is also the Inglewood bus that Andy uses to take groups of guests around in and literally nothing is too much trouble.
The only reason you wouldn't stay here is if the hotel is full, which I presume it will be with increasing regularity.

I have now stayed at the Inglewood twice this year. On both occasions, it has been an excellent experience.
I visit the Isle of Man on a regular basis for business, and have at last found somewhere that I am truly happy to recommend. I would also choose to stay here for leisure reasons too, if on the island.
Pip and Andy are warm and friendly hosts. The rooms are clean, spacious and modern. The beds are comfortable.
There are some good restaurants a short walk away, and the bar is available in the hotel for a drink on my return. The choice and quality of food for breakfast is also excellent.
There is not one point I can raise as a negative or a concern, and I'll be booking here for visits next year.

We are regular visitors to the IoM and decided to try the Inglewood on the basis of its excellent reviews. At last we found somewhere welcoming, comfortable and well looked-after, as indeed we were. Pip and Andy were extremely helpful when our friend's flight was cancelled at short notice. The room quality was that of a top class hotel, without being impersonal, and was elegantly furnished and immaculately clean. Pip and Andy are lovely people, who clearly care about what they do.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

This establishment was highly recommended by other travellers and was No 1 on the Isle of Man according to Trip Advisor so I decided to book a room.
I duly sent an email query off and received a friendly, crisp reply by return. So far so good.
The welcome I received by Pippa, the co owner, was friendly and extremely professional. She has the art of making guests feel 'at home' perfected. Any and all questions were knowledgeably answered.
My room was spacious with a separate seating area adjoining the bedroom. It was clean and the small shower/toilet immaculately presented. There are tea making facilities and a modern flat panel TV is mounted on the wall opposite the bed. The view from the two windows was uninspiring. It faced other windows approximately twenty feet away. The view if you have a room at the front is quite beautiful but these were all taken.
Downstairs there is a comfortable sitting room overlooking the promenade and bay. Next to it a bar which is open in the evening. At the back a spacious and clean dining area where breakfast is served.
A variety of breakfasts are on offer including Manx kippers and a full English breakfast all ably managed by Pipas's husband Andy. These are cooked to a high standard.
What are the negatives?
If you are looking for a regular hotel type environment with large reception areas, concierges etc then this is not for you. This is bed and breakfast accommodation. That said, it was the first time in thirty years I had stayed at this type of accommodation and I was pleased I chose it.
There is no lift. This means if you are elderly and/or infirm it could be a major problem. Going up five steep flights of steps is not a problem if you are fit but in the first few hours it was quite daunting. That said one becomes 'aclimatised' very quickly!
Parking. It can be extremely difficult finding a space in the street directly outside Inglewood particularly in the evening. You might have to park a couple of minutes walk down the road. So not a major problem but something guests should be aware of.
The positives?
A clean, well run establishment by a friendly, decent and hard working couple who welcome you into their 'house' (they live in the basement).
The cost is fair for the quality of room and food. It is in a good location with a wide variety of restaurants within walking distance.
It is sited on an island that has so much natural beauty and yet the world at large is unaware of it. If you want to go and 'chill out' this is a great place and Inglewood is a good base to explore from.
The owners are only to happy to help and offer advice in order to make your holiday/stay enjoyable.
Summing up: It justifiably deserves its good reputation and rating. All in all.....Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask if they have a room at the front available. It may cost more but it is worth it

Gorgeous room. Everything is updated, including the bathroom. Nice leather couch, amazing ocean view. Uncluttered, comfortable, clean, fresh. Excellent location right on the main Promenade, quick walk to the charming Electric Railway and the shops and restaurants in the heart of Douglas. Lots of choices for breakfast, nearly everything you could think of. Good quality food, cooked to order. Friendly and accommodating hosts helped me make the most of my visit. It was also fun to meet up with the other guests at the bar in the evening. From my overall visit, I believe this is the best hotel on the Isle of Man!
