“Sleepwell Hotels" --hardly likely !!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

The Chesterhouse Hotel is on the promenade within easy walking distance from the Ferry Terminal, the Staff and Food were superb, our room at the back was small, a 3/4 size bed, only room for one chair, good TV, tea and coffee, clean and tidied daily.
The Island for first time visitors was superb, clean streets and beach-- we visited everywhere, Steam Train, Laxey Wheel, Mines, TT Circut, horse drawn tram, Museums all over this beautiful island,---friendly residents and Police -- even the weather was good--we went to see EVITA at the Variety Theatre on our last night .
The "down" side was the noise during the night at the back of the hotel, pigeons roosting on the windows cooing, seagulls squawking, and wheelie bins at 5.30 in the morning --dirty windows didn't help the ambience.
I strongly recommend another visit to the Isle of Man, cannot recommend this "Sleepwell Hotel" as you don't sleep well !!!

Room Tip: Seafront rooms, worth a little extra to get a good nights sleep !!

We stayed at the Chesterhouse for a week having booked with Shearings. The hotel was absolutely spotless and the staff were lovely - especially the receptionists. As to it being a 'sleepwell' hotel that is debateable. The first couple of nights we could not sleep as the room seemed to back on to very loud extractor fans from the restaurant on the adjacent side street and also the hotel itself. However, when mentioning this at reception we were given a different room as soon as one was available - on the Monday- which was much quieter. So this was dealt with as promptly as possible. The food was lovely and cooked beautifully - both the evening meal and the breakfasts. However, I had requested a low-fat diet (not to be faddy but because too much fat leaves me in pain) - though warned that this could not be guaranteed I have never had a problem at other hotels finding dishes that were acceptable. However on two nights I had to go hungry or eat out as all food was either deep fried or swimming in a cream based sauce. Even if a low fat diet has not been requested surely in these health conscious days is should be possible to provide more than salad leaves and fruit as a healthy choice (and I did get very bored having fruit every evening for dessert). Can I suggest that the chef ensures one low fat alternative at all meals? Overall I would recommend staying here thoughfor the reaons given at the beginning.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room - much nicer from what i could see.

We booked late for this hotel at a reduced price so we were surprised and delighted to get a sea view room which was very large. It had a super kingsize bed and a single bed in it even though there are only two of us. The room was serviced every day to an excellent standard. All the staff were very polite and helpful. The food in the restaurant was served buffet style and there was plenty of choice, particularly for the evening meal. The food was standard English style. Water was served with the evening meal. There was a bar to purchase drinks should you wish to but there was no pressure to do so. Simple free entertainment was provided on three evenings during the week.
This hotel had everything that we needed without extra services which we don't need but in a larger hotel we would be paying. for. There is no room service or swimming pool or other such frills. If you want these then choose a different hotel. If you want a straightforward hotel in an excellent location with a good bed, good food and polite helpful staff, I cannot recommend this more highly.

Stayed at the Chesterhouse recently for a short break following an operation. Staff responded to my request for a lower floor room as I had difficulty walking. The hotel is a short distance from the ferry terminal. The rooms were spotless and fully equipped with TV tea coffee facilties, hair dryer ironing board iron etc. Breakfast was generous helpings, the staff were both pleasant and helpful. There is a lift to all floors a little cramped ,but better than using the stairs. I think the hotel has been adapted from a few adjoining guest houses and upgraded, with a result the corridors are a little narrow, but unless you are over 30 stone it is not a problem. good clean hotel, pleasant helpful staff would definitely stay again

Room Tip: It`s worth paying a little extra for an "Executive room" at the front of the hotel command...

i rate our stay at the Chesterhouse as a good experience, the room was very spacious and clean and had everything that my wife and i required for a weekend stay, including a window view. we were also given an exellent breakfast. the only downside was the noise from the floor on the room above.

My employers booked this hotel as we needed four rooms at shortish notice. So having read the reviews here I expected the worst possible scenarios at the hotel. We arrived in the evening and seemed to confuse the receptionist a bit when I gave them my name and said we should have four rooms booked. She then said she had me and three others guests, she didn't accept that as being four rooms! It raised a laugh with us and to be honest its as bad as it got.

We where all on the third floor, the rooms where not huge by say Premier Inn standard but they where clean and had everything one would require for a few nights stay. The decor do with a refresh and the stair carpets where a bit threadbare in some places, but I have seen worse. The only thing wrong in my room was the shower curtain was too short to stop all the water from going on the floor, but the shower was clean and worked well.

The breakfast was decent, had better had worse, but for a hotel of this standard it was more than acceptable and none of our party complained about the quality.

The staff where friendly and helpful, the receptionist (Hannah) even changed the Manx bank notes I had left back to UK notes for me without complaint.

It is evident that the hotels main customer base is coach parties, however most hotels on the island are probably the same. The hotel is on the promenade facing the sea, and this is where I have only one complaint. The seagulls! Noisy birds at the best of time but obviously with tall buildings around they would roost on them overnight then create quite a racket in the morning. Not the hotels fault, however I am sure they could do more to control here birds can land, but then again all the companies and hotels would need to take the same measures.

Room Tip: try to avoid the rooms facing the rear, the views are not great and you will be woken by seagulls

Surprisingly got double room having had to book a twin due to availability. Floor sloped from 1 end to other and showed age (trim/finish etc) staff difficult to understand. Not a Premium Hotel as expected being a Sleepwell

Room Tip: Dont leave your iphone charger in this hotel as you will NOT get it back!
